The last time the PAN tried to "clean up" la Zona, the chicas threatened to march on City Hall and strip for the television cameras. The PAN backed off. Viva Las Mexicanas!

Leyzaola will never "take care of the cartels" but he is making their life miserable. He is not a fan of the Zona Norte, but he has very little time left in his term, and I think you don't need to worry about the red light district.

With the exception of after 3 a.m. since the bars are being required to close at 3 a.m. and about a half hour after that, the SGs are reported to mostly disappear. However, you will still probably be able to find someone who you will find appealing enough to take arriba.

I am sure I am not the only person to think of this possible strategy: If you are in the bars at 2:30 a.m. or so, you could try negotiating a TLN (toda la noche) with a BG until 7 or 8 a.m. or so.

Here is a nice positive article about Tijuana that was in the Los Angeles Times the other day. I haven't seem too many positive articles about Tijuana for years now, and I think it's great when we get one. Because it's been very very peaceful the last few trips I made to TJ, and I been making quite a few trips lately.

Yes it's true that often the Mexican military soldiers can be worst than some of the old corrupt cops. The human right abuses have shot thorough the roof in some Mexican city as the soldiers have moved in.

In Tijuana they have a chief of police from the military. His name is Leyaola, and he is hated by the drug cartels. Sampson met with him, and thinks he is beyond reproach and a great Mexican Patriot. Many local Mexicans like him too, but there are mixed feelings, and the more educated Mexicans espeically the ones in the Ivy towers hate the man, and fear his human rights abuses he has already been charged with, and they point to the fact that drugs are getting over to the US side easier than ever, and cities where the Military moved in are worst than ever.


But Leyaola and his men from either the military or of the local police aren't fucking with the average monger in the "zona" but that may be because they had other things to worry about when the drug cartels were active and aiming for the cops? So at this time the only ones should worry about Leyaola are other TJ cops who are accused of being on the drug cartels payroll. Leyaola has those cops tortured with electric charges to the ball; jailed without being charged, and then forced to sign confessions.

I can't wait till Leyaola's cops start doing that to a few mongers who get on their wrong side, and I bet their tune would change in a hurry?

What Sampson said. I have never felt safer, to be truthful. Having said that, you have to remember TJ is a big city and you should always take the same precautions that you would take in any big city. But believe me, TJ does not hold a candle to some of the East Coast urban jungles. When I hear guys complain about the safety, I just have to smile remembering where I grew up.

If you are doing articles on the army's participation on the war on the drug cartels here in Mexico and the best you can come up with is "Anyone hear of army solders up to mischief?", you really shouldn't even think about writing at all.

You are so, so so way off track.

It has been pretty tame in TJ most recently. The drug cartel was and is never random and it has always been away from the Zona Norte and areas of tourism.

Just got done reading a series of articles on Mother Jones website on the drug wars in Mexico. Seems like the army soldiers may be far far worse than the cops ever were. Myself, been mongering in TJ as far back as late 80's. Worst the cops ever did was shake me down for couple bills but settled for what I had in my pocket.

Wondering what the latest is in TJ? Anyone hear of army solders up to mischief? Is the violence going to reach AB sooner or later? Is closing time still 3am? It's my home away from home. Thanks
