TONS of homework...

Okay, so I guess I wasn't prepared for the amount of homework we would be having!! Our books came in, and MAAANNN... did our instructor ever pile on the work! If people knew just how much studying and learning was involved in became a massage therapist they would never question our abilities or intentions. I've learned sooo much in the last month that my brain is having trouble keeping up! I have 4 chapters to read and do the questions at the end, as well as studying for a test during the next class session. Yall wish me luck!!!

Does the amount of homework lessen over time (in your school) or is this pretty much what I should expect for the next ten months?

I felt the same way,as you do now. Thank God I am finished with school,and waiting to go test. I had homework on top of homework alll through school. The closer it got to the end of a semester we would have double of what was normaly given to us. I did find that the more I learned the easier the homework got on some things. We was given a huge test on the very last day. I wish you luck ! Do not get overwhelmed and quit, as alot of people do. .Just hang in there, and stick with it. The time will fly by,and you will be finished with it before you know it.

I was in a 12 month program, and worked like that all the way through. I enjoyed the learning, but it was a bit intimidating, at first. As you adjust to it, it's just life. Hang in there, and be amazed at your wonderful ability to learn!! Keep your eye on the goal, too. It will fly by!!

I too experience a ton of homework. Lots of reading, fitting in massage, memorizing stuff and all of that. The way I made it through, (well, almost through, 4 weeks to go) was to stay on top and organized. I know I have kinda slacked this last few weeks and it shows. I am a bit more unorganized and stressed for it. Find little time slots to read a chapter or memorize just a couple O& I. The homework doesn't stop and you don't want to let it snowball on you. Don't be scared, be prepared. I took my back pack with all my stuff everytwhere the first 9 months. I could study if waiting on my kid to be done somewhere, or waiting on a fried to show up for coffee or something. It takes a big chunk of your life for awhile but in the end you are not going to believe how fast it flies by.

TJ - it's been a long time since school, but, it was always an enormous amount of work in class and out. I worked a full-time job, 2 part-time jobs, drove 2 hours each way 2 nights a week to school, and still managed to stay married despite the endless reading, the prepping of flashcards, self-testing in workbooks, taking my textbooks everywhere [even the movie theater and family dinners] and the endless hours of talking to myself so I would retain all the stuff I needed for school.

It seemed overwhelming at first, for about 3 or 4 months of our 18 month program, BUT, when I finally got used to having my brain strive to grow and absorb all the information, it actually seemed to get easier to do all of what at first seemed impossible.

Ah, it will, be a year in August, that I had started school. - 7 1/2 mo program, so am graduated and licensed... anyhoo...

It's a bit overwhelming at first. I don't think anything can prepare you for the amount of work and memorization that you have to put in. If I had a chance to do it all over again, I'd apply myself more to studying. Having said that I got all A's and two B's so, I did something right!

A&P as well as MusculoSkel/Kinesiology, were the worst classes. not that I hated them because, I didn't, but it was the amount of things we learned. I was the only one, out of my whole class who understood most of it because I work in the Healthcare field.

With Musculo, the best thing I found is to get a victim, at home, and follow the muscle movements as per the way the book describes it. A book called "The Concise Book Of Muscles" is pretty excellent as well as the "Anatomy Coloring Book."

A&P was odd for me, simply becasue we started the class in oen format (the teacher would have us do flash cards which don't work for me) and then switched to all out - information until you drop - mode. I think it's a little more difficult because there is just SO MUCH information. For this class, it's mostly memorization - trying to recall where each thing is, what it does, what it means. No other way around it, really.

I also studied with "brainfood" cds/tapes. They are basically a CD that has NO lyrics but a type of musical composition that supposedly spikes certain areas of your brain, specificaly the ones that help with memory. You can find them at - http://www.hemi-sync.com - I found that type of music stops my head from "wandering" to other things.

For me the work hasn't lessened at all. In fact it has increased. Before we were doing a lot of memorizing and now we are doing more written work (i.e. writing papers). I am about seven weeks from graduation and was told that the last six weeks gets even more intense. I am not looking forward to it.

What kind of papers are you writing? I don't think we are doing anything like that.

So far we have done T.O.S., carpal tunnel, torticollis, low back pain, and a few others I can't recall off the top of my head. In professional practice we had to put together a business plan binder with things such as one year goal, five year goal, introductory letter, resume, biography, brochure, business cards, etc.

I recognize that workload! I went to Lakeside in Madison.
