Transport from Downtown

Hey All,

I hail from Winnipeg, and thought I would venture out to see what the local scene has to offer (and considering I will be there for the better part of week on business, I might need to relax).

I'm staying downtown very close to Eaton centre, and have "narrowed" my choice down to visiting 1 of 2-3 studios.

My major question/problem is that I won't have a rental car or any other "very easy" form of transportation. I was thinking about either taking the subway/bus combination, or subway/taxi combination, depending.

My top choices are visiting Allure, HFH, or SRM. I know most of these are quite a ways from downtown.

- At Allure, I was considering April or Raquel.

- At HFH, I was considering Cameron (or pretty much ANYONE, I seem to get the vibe that most are of high quality).

- At SRM, I was considering Annabelle, Amanda, Serena, and..upon looking at the website..I don't think I'd be that picky here either.

I see that both SRM and Allure are close to the airport, while HFH is way out by itself.

What would you all recommend as transportation (anything that you know of that is glaringly obvious?). I can look up the city bus routes, that shouldn't be a problem for me..but a little guidance would be helpful.

Also, what do you think of my choices? Am I missing anything? Is IT any good, or do you think I have enough on my plate of choices already?

HFH is the easiest: the 77 bus—an every 20/30 minutes in daytime co-op by Vaughan and Bramalea transit— out of Finch station will pass by Hiway 7 and Pine Valley after about a 20 min trip. Ten minutes walk south has you at the door. The same sorta walk would get you to Club Pro or WaGG if you're into SCs. The 77 fiinishes its route at Bramalea City Centre (a mall) where you can get Bramalea transit pretty much right to SRM (#14, I think) The #11 along Steeles may be the closest you get to Allure by bus, and that ain't very close. But there are two (15, 18) routes that will take you to Cannonball.
Do get a free map from the Subway guys, it shows all the transit companies' routes. Count on the suburban ones practically shutting down after the business day.
GO Transit out of Union Station or Yorkdale will also get you to Bramalea if you want to start your adventures there and travel the other way.
Be warned: these are suburban locations, far from downtown and all three MPs are in industrial/commercial malls where transit only exists to deliver and remove workers twice a day—if that. Be brave. Stay calm. Watch for the signs.
And maybe think again about the rental. Each transit company's gonna want $2-3, and any taxi completion of a trip will be $10-20, then double all the above to return. And each trip will be over an hour, so do take a book.

The places you've picked are good but none of them will be easy or quick to get to from downtown by public transportation. You might want to check out some of the in town spas.

For instance, Health International is right downtown at 366 Bay Street. As well, Body and Soul is very close to Yorkdale Shopping Mall which you can take the subway to and then walk over to 153 Bridgeland. Platinum at 1230 Sheppard should be fairly easy to get to. Subway to Downsview Stn and then the Sheppard bus for a short ride.

To get to Allure or SRM you will need to take a combination of TTC, Mississauga/Brampton Transit. For HFH you can do it all on the TTC but it will be a long ride.

SRM is 1 km from the Bramalea Go Station which has frequent service and has a train from downtown that can be taken in the early evening.

I think Revolver's approach is best though: assess the transit that's efficient for you, then hunt for the nearby spas, and I second his nominations*.
Romeo (who posted a bit above) will help you find spas by location; just click on the |Hompage| button under his name—and Bookmark it.

*Blue Pearl is also a short walk/cheap cab from Yorkdale; the 'luxury decor' is a treat, the management is a trial, and I leave it to you to read past reviews and decide if it's a thing you'd like to try.
