Except when I went out that Monday night when I was en route home and there was a whole new crop of girls that didn't know that I knew you (and my other trips to Monterrey armed only with your maps). From across the room they might have thought newbie. But within 10 seconds of meeting me, they knew I knew what was going on. Yes, you trained me well, but I brought a lot of my frontera game with me.

Now Carlos, when I was in MTY last month I wore shorts every time I went to the clubs and the girls seemed to love me and said I was handsome. Or at least they liked my friends Ignacio Zaragoza or Andrew Jackson. I could be the sharpest dressed man in the club, but if I don't have the plata, the girls all say adios.

Especially in MTY and the Texas border towns where it is 40c outside and the Mexican clubs have their AC set to 30c so the girls don't get cold. If I'm not Seٌor Pantalones Cortos*, I sweat too much and feel uncomfortable. I do the same when I'm in TJ or NLBT or really any place I've gone to monger.

If I were going on a date with a Latina (or Mexicana when I'm in Mexico), of course I would dress to impress. But in a club where the score is known, I dress for my comfort and something I don't mind getting dirty.

When I do end up living in Mexico, I'll follow the cultural norms. I still won't be mistaken as a local, but I won't stand out like the damn tourists.

*I first got the name Mr. Short Pants when I was in Amsterdam on Queensday and some Dutch guys would comment about everyone walking down the sidewalk. They'd say something in Dutch to the busty girls walking by. They instantly knew to switch to English and yelled "Hey Mr. Short Pants! Mr. Short Pants!"

And as for FB, yeah I got your point about dressing appropriately. One thing I notice the Mexicans look like real jokers if they wear shorts hey no racist comment here, just my biased opinion !
And yes there is not much of the Robert Redford and Brad Pitt types in the American genes pool, definitely not in So Cal area, probably in the "uncontaminated" areas of the upper midwest where the German pool still stays strong

Yes Bohemian some Gringos just stand out with blond hair, blue eyes and fair skin, but you know what that doesn't seem to be the majority in the US anymore, so even some gringos could be considered maybe Mexican, or they look like Americans who understand the customs of Mexico and maybe speak Spanish, meaning the TJ cops and thugs might leave you alone?

I just post this because I know how many people from the US are fearful of the TJ police, and wearing pants is one way of cutting your odds you'll be stopped.

For the blond, blue eyed mongers who will stand out anyway, you might be better off flaunting the fact your American, and give a you better not fuck me with attitude!

Again wearing shorts isn't that bad in TJ as TJ is close to San Diego so shorts are common.....it's just something to keep in mind in big cities inland Mexican men rarely if ever wear shorts.

Of course once you establish yourself as a customer, you can go dressed as you want to... but on the mean time, looking fine helps a lot.

I agree we should not let the Chica pick you, as it will usually be a bad deal, sometimes it can be a good coincidence that the chica picks you whom you wanted too.

And about this "Shorty" affair, whats the definition of a tourist here, I thought all non TJ people are tourist in the Zona, and esp if you are American greengo or blackgo, you stand out as a tourist anyway ?

You might be missing the point about the shorts, it's not the girls will reject you for wearing shorts, it's that by wearing shorts you are announcing to all the locals in Mexico, and that includes the girls that you are a tourist, which usually isn't an advaneforum.xxxe.

Think of the TJ cops as the Lions, and the TJ tourists as the Wildebeast. The cops have many choices as to who they are going to stop at night. Should the select the strong, large group of people. or the lone drunk off his ass straggler? The cops select their targets by who is most likely to have drugs, money, or looks like trouble. Best advice - don't lose control in TJ, avoid dark alleys & dead ends, don't be a victim waiting to happen.

Remember when you were a kid (I mean a little kid, not now) and you were picking sides to play a game. The good kids just stood there and waited to be chosen. The kids who did not want to get picked last would jump up and down, raise there hand, and yell "pick me, pick me".

Well, things really have not changed when you go to Adelitas. The hott girls just stand there and wait, while the old, fat girls come up to you and yell "fuck me, fuck me".

As far as wearing shorts go, I doubt a girl will turn you down if you are wearing shorts. She may turn you down if you don't have enough money.

I think a guy from the US should dress however they want in TJ as it's not really a big deal and your chances of getting robbed by the TJ cops are small, but there is always the chance you will be stopped and questioned.

However if you wear short in TJ or most major inland cities in Latin America you might as also wear a T-shirt with American tourist on the front, because you are telling that part of the world that you are a tourist.

You rarely see a Mexican man wearing shorts even if it's hot in Mexico with the exception hot muggy beach cities, and even than you see mostly long pants. A Mexican women told me once that only tourist and little boys wear shorts in Mexico, I'm not sure why except they thinks shorts are too informal?

But like I said dress how you want, but if you want to try to blend in don't wear shorts unless your are going to the beach or pool in Mexico.

Keep in mind being dropped off to the west of the pedestrian bridge is no guarantee that the TJ cops won't stop you. They have stopped many guys walking that bridge, and when they do it's isolated just you and the TJ cop, as it's better to be stopped with others around and they are more apt to let you go. However, you will probably be stopped less walking the bridge as they rarely stake it out, but sometimes they make it a point to stake out the bridge and leave the other path alone.

During the day I don't think I ever heard of anybody getting shaken down by the taxi drop off point, usually it's only at night you get stopped. Also for the last few months we have been seeing less and less TJ cops by the taxi drop off point. The last trip I only saw one cop, and the two times before that I didn't see any cop.
