Dear Kathy,
Unfortunately we will not be able to assist you as much as we would
like, because we are not licensed practitioners nor medical doctors.
Per FDA regulation, they forbid us from providing you with medical
advice, dosage information, potential drug/herb reactions, or assistance
with questions relating to injury, illness etc. While some of us are
knowledgeable herbalists; we are neither licensed medical practitioners,
nor pharmacists or researchers, and we are legally restricted from
answering your medical questions. Specifically, I am not familiar with
the Birth Control Pill in any way, and I would not be able to give you
an accurate answer because I do not know exactly how the Birth Control
Pill works or how it specifically affects the body. The only way you
can really get a thorough and accurate answer to this question would be
to find somebody who had specific knowledge about both materials in
question. We thank you for your understanding and recommend that you do
your own research, if appropriate, with the assistance of a licensed
practitioner, (Naturopath, nutritionist, pharmacist, medical doctor
etc.).
Our only recommendation at this point is to refer to one of several
links we have provided below.
We hope this helps and thank you for your understanding.
Regards and best wishes
Graham

Subject: Question about St. John's Wort affecting birth control pills
Name: Kathy
Message: Hello. I am the administrator of massageplanet.com, a forum
for professional bodyworkers and massage practitioners which encourage
practitioners to discuss professional issues, products and other aspects
of our profession.
During a discussion about arnica I made a recommendation for your arnica
and St. John's wort massage oil. A question came up regarding the
effect of St. John's Wort on birth control pills. Could you please
address this concern?
Actual question: "When using this oil (because of the St. John's Wort) -
would you have to watch out for women on Birth Control Pills? I have
read it will reduce the effectiveness of BCP. It is too small an amount
to matter?"
