I'm spending staying in a hotel in Budapest with a girl for 6 days and nights. What is the right amount I should be paying her for her company?

I was in Hungary for 14 days and i had great time there. When i was walking to Vaci ut. girls come and speak to me. They say that they are tourists searching for a pub and they invite you to go with them for a drink. Just say no!
They are a lot of easy non-pros girls in Bp, every pub, club, disco is full of them, just you must to know how to play with them. A very nice place with a lot of girls is "Old mans Pub", if someone goes to Bp visit this place.

This Scam Existed in Vegas, way before it started in Hungary, It happened to an Australian pal of mine who had to pay 1600$ for a couple of drinks for two girls with his Amex, they even took his fingerprint in case he tried to declare the card stolen.
I guess as the Romans used to say " Caveat Emptor " buyer beware.
Personally I prefer to use www.lefantasy.com and make sure that everything is clear upfront before engaging myself, this way I avoid bad surprises.
I guess, the hungarians think of themselves slicker than the rest of us, but the fact is they lived in tyranny for half a century, and when they came out of it, their girls have to spread for us in order to make ends meet.

... this is one of the clubs they try you to enter with them, it should be a normal restaurant ... the girls belongs to two stripbars, too, as i could see last night. At least there are about 20 girls, maybe much more. With this i recognize two guys hanging around the whole day watching the street how the girls work, maybe more.

As i hungarian escort-lady has told me yesterday, they try to steal or try to bring you in a club where you have to pay or got pain ...

Im just here in budapest. While you walk on different days over the vaci ucta you see and recognize all the girls working ... tonight at 1:00, i saw a douzend of them standing together talking ... smile. They make really a good jon, today i meet two of them and just for ten minutes i believe their story, then i remark the fake and stopped the thing.

Unfortunately only in german you can read our article about budapest since the 30. of december 2005 here in a german forum.

Sorry to hear about your troubles... a similar scam happened to me in Athens, Greece. I was completely mystified after the fact! Funny when I had a chance to read my Lonely Planet guide there was a section warning about this type of trick. It mentioned if you were one of the unlucky ones to just think you were selected to be in a play and experienced local entertainment! albeit a costly one

Just noticed this thread. It's unfortunately quite a common scam indeed.

Unfortunately, even looking at the prices first wouldn't help in Budapest. They also have the "menu switch" scam. When you arrive, they show you a menu with normal prices and, when you leave, a few gorillas show you another one with (hugely) inflated prices if you dare asking to check. Don't even think to argue with them.

Best is not to go with any girl approaching you in the streets, and avoid the places listed on the US embassy web site mentioned by offington below.

Really sorry to hear about your experience onmyway. Unfortunately, as you say, this is a common scam. Many guys have come off alot worse though. there was a famous case where two Danish guys ended paying over $1,500 for a meal with two girls. Exactly the same scenario. It hit all the newspapers. The US Embassy has general advice and a list of some of the bars in question. Check out this link for really good advice.

I live in Budapest, not too far from Vaci Utca (street) in fact. Once I saw a guy going with two of these girls. I told him not to go as I knew the girls are trouble. He told me to "fuck off and mind my own business". I wonder what happened to him!!

Another trick is for the girls to say " I saw you in Beckitts last night". Beckitts is a large Irish pub frequented by many expats. Twice this has happened to me and I told the girls quite aggressively " Don't you lie to me". They were quite shocked as this is not the usual response they get from unaware foreigners. The girls as mentioned before appear cultured student/schoolteacher types.

So beware and spread the news about this scam. If you want to have a good time with nice girls always use one of the reputable internet agencies. Do not go with any girls from the street.

Good post, I wii keep this in mind, actually that is pretty scary. Of course you have no recourse.
Friend of mine once quoted an unknown source "The strongest most powerful man in his country looses all his power and strength and position the minute he steps out of his country" you get the idea.

As I have posted elswhere that is why I like at least a 3-star hotel where the first thing I do when I check in is to get to know the manager who hooks me up with a safe Taxi man who is like a hotel employee. It is like buying insurance. Just take a drink forget about it and be glad no physical harm. Life,

Guys just a word of warning,
I was approched at night by 2 very nicely dressed 'girl next door' types in their early twenties who introduced themselves as university students.
Perfect English, nice manners not at all pushy all 3 of us we went into an upstairs bar just off the street and feeling a bit lonely in such a new and unfamiliar city I was happy to buy the drinks.
The bar looked or felt no different from the many other tourist bars in the same area. The girls were very nice company and we talked and laughed over many subjects from cinema to Russian literature to the war in Iraq.
Honestly I felt good and the way these girls were seducing me with such Subtlety giving me indirect hints that they were interested in having sex just had me hooked.
Well after several drinks the bill came amounting to $1,012.00 US including service charge and taxes.
I had 4 bottles of the local larger beer and the girls drank the same amount, local white wine by the glass.
Naturally I questioned the bill and was shown the drinks menu showing the average price of 1 drink amounting to about the same same price as staying one night in a comfortable 4 or 5 star hotel.
By this time the girls had fucked off and the friendly waiters/staff had turned into unsmiling mafia types.
What happened next was very unpleasant from being accompanied by foot to an ATM machine (which did not work) to being personaly escorted by taxi back to my hotel.
Fortuitously thanks to some outside intervention I amazingly got let off lightly with just paying with all the cash I had on me which was just under $200.00 US.
The bar I think was called the KZ or KS. This con, however, they tell me is quite common in Budapest and it is people like myself who would expect this type of thing only to happen in strip joint places are the ones who are taken off guard.
The lesson here whether Hungary or Honduras ' Always look at the prices first.'
