What i love about the Thai drinking environment

The one thing I miss about Thailand when I go home is …..
The bars and clubs where you get table service and you are encouraged, when you are with a group, to buy a beer tower or a bottle of something and just relax knowing that for tonight you can drink at your own pace and drink your own strength drinks and don’t have to worry about going up to get served and join a big cue when you finished your drink and have to put with some idiot having a power trip and serving everyone but you. For me it’s the perfect drinking environment and unfortunately, unless you spend big money in the UK, and I’m talking something like 500 pounds minimum spend on tables in clubs in the west end, it just aint going to happen.
Been Thailand a fair bit in the last 4 years and have grown a bit tired of the bar scene but this sort of night out I can never tire of.

I agree though. It's the same in the USA and Canada. That table service. Not sure why more pubs don't try it in the UK...

Agree with you totally, I can drink all night in LOS , to sunrise if I wish and rarely get as drunk as would at home ( as long as I avoid shots.....)

Totally relaxed, own pace and not the pressure of being in rounds

of course it is more in the West but if you are with 3-4 guys it really doesn't cost too much more than buying drinks at the bar by yourself
i would say if alone i would spend 100-130usd for a night and with 3 or 4 guys i would spend 150-175 at table service and have an infintely better night. no waiting on drinks, being crowded, plus a table attracts more girls

only thing i wish is if i could buy a bottle and keep it in the bar like Thailand because i go out with my wife alone sometimes in Vancouver and would love to buy a bottle to get a nice table/spot but with just me, i am not going to spend 500-600usd but would if i could keep it there

In all serious, completely agree with that point... Not sure whats its like in the US or anywhere else, but you can stand at a bar for up to 10-15 minutes some times just to order 1 drink! Then often enough there will be a 2 drink max, so half the group needs to get up and order...

Much easier in Thailand.... When ever I get home, its the first thing I ***** about 555

In Singapore and Malaysia one can buy beer by jug (roughly SGD17 during happy hours, around SGD35 otherwise) or tower (SGD50) in pubs and drink on your own speed, you can also request unlimited supply of free buckets of ice to further add chill to your beer.

One can order 660ml cold beer bottle of Heineken or Tiger (damn cheap for SGD6 only) in Hawker centers (no air con, have fans). Hawker centers are all over sg where you drink like a local. They serve you with a glass full of ice. Severs will always keep an eye on your glass and will keep replenishing it until your bottle is empty (and will keep wiping your table to remove dripping water from condensation from glass, bottle and ice bucket) and will always ask you if you need another bottle.

Great service, available almost everywhere, with such low price.

Well yeah, but more and more going on back home it turns out it is, that is before you get to pissed to care. But a combination of having to cue out in the cold to get in to idiot bouncers to long cue just to get one drink by some teeny bopper bar staff all just makes me not want to bother.

Mate, already missing LOS, its about time you took the flight. With your skills why not consider finding a job in Sg or HK, visit LOS almost every weekend if you so wish.

In Dubai you got some cool places, like the York, where you can leave the unfinished bottle behind the bar and they stick your name on it. If you come back 3 month later, the girls come up instantly with the bottle in hands...

Don't understand.....The OP is talking about atmosphere and the laid back approach. What has that to do with money? Plus I've yet to find a place (Unless you are drinking wine ) that is more expensive than in the UK.

I agree with K1 when we lived in BKK we used to go to the German bear hall forgotten its name now.
You would get a tube of beer,your glass was never empty and good food and a show.
There you could sit around have a no pressure or hassles good night with a large group.
Leave there paying 12-1500bt for 8 people to eat and drink their hearts out.
I shudder to think what that would be worth in the west if you could find it.

Love it, there's no place remotely close to it that i've found in Australia. Always gotta go line up and they only sell you two drinks at a time in most places and charge you $15+ for the experience.

anyone else have a local where you get cheered by the waitresses when you walk in the bar....big smiles, bows and hellos all round...they fall all over you to get you a drink...some come over and sit on your lap....others bend over the bar for you so you can have a good perve or a friendly tap on their but....they give your pecker a squeeze just to make sure you haven't lost your libido overnight...and most are happy to go home with you that night for a 25 quid tip
