What or where do I need to look to find out what I need to start my massage business?

I have been a massage therapist for 7 years now working in spas and hotels and I am now considering going out on my own. I have built a large client base and would just like to make life easier on myself by having one one place to go to. Whether its renting a space somewhere or leasing my own area I am trying to research what licenses I need as well tax info etc. I would like to just make sure that the business I start is legit. Does someone out there know what what I need to do? or can you please point me in the right directions as far as websites go?

Do you have a good accountant? If not, you might want to get one. They can often help you file incorporation paperwork and get you set up to pay your taxes on a scheduled basis. Otherwise, get with a corporate attorney for incorporation.

You will also need to register w/ city/county typically for a business license and check w/ local/state Dept of Health for any regulations they require. This varies by location.

Ask your clients if they know of any spaces available and let them know you won't be so mobile in the future. Make sure you won't lose too many of them in the process. This might help you save some time and money in your search. You might also see how far they will have to travel to get to you, as many people will not go much beyond 15-20 minutes from home, unless you're really good! See how many LMTs they'll pass on the way to your spot if possible before deciding on a location.
