What text books are you guys using?

I was just wondering what text books everyone is using in school. Anyone out there using the latest edition of "Trail Guide to the Body" by Books of Discovery? What about Massage Therapy: Principles and Practice by Susan Salvo? I'd be interested to know what it is you all are using as text books.

We used Trail Guide when I was in school and now that I am apprenticing we use the updated version. I took my old one to work with me and use it to find what I am looking for when it is some thing specific. I have always felt the book was invaluable! The latest version is even better and more complete than the one I had in school!

Trail Guide is excellent. While in school, two books I used (and continue to use in practice) are: A Massage Therapist's Guide to Pathology and Basic Clinical Massage Therapy. Both are great books; and I would recommend picking up one if not both.

I love "A Massage Therapist's Guide to Pathology." That has been a very useful and user-friendly book. We used Trail Guide and The Muscular Systems Manual by Joseph Muscolino. Personaly, I prefer the Muscolino book, and the new version is super, but some of my classmates like the Trail Guide better.

Another sueforum.xxx book that we have used for a number of classes is "The Balanced Body" by Donald Scheumann.

I love my Trail Guide to the Body book (third edition). In my massage class we used Mosby's Fundamentals of Therapeutic Massage. I am now in my clinical applications class and we use Clinical Massage Therapy by Fiona Rattray. This book has over 70 conditions and tells you how to understand, assess, and treat them. When I start my practice, this book along with my kinese book (trail guide) will be there right with me.

For A/P - we are using Principles of Anatomy and Physiology by Tortora and Derrickson

For Massage - we are using an assortment of books but the majority of what we have covered is in the Basic Clinical Massage Therapy : Integrating Anatomy and Treatment.

Other massage texts we've used: Mosby's Fundamentals of Therapeutic Massage and of course, we've covered Kellogg in the Art of Massage seeing that our state board loves to test on Kellogg (oh joy!) :roll:

We're using all the above but I must mention my fav- NETTERS.
It's the basis for most medical practitioner's education. The newest edition has xrays & topographical paintings as well.

I also do love my Coloring book

After reading the books you are using, I just gotta ask. Are you in Ohio? You are using the same books that I used. Every single one!

If you want to take your skills and knowledge of A&P and pathology to a very high level, I highly recommend the 2 Vol. set of Travell and Simon's, "Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction-The Trigger Point Manual". They contain detailed anatomy illustrations, pathology, pain cause/effect and trigger point treatments in addition to massage and stretching techniques. I also like Art Rigg's book, "Deep Tissue Massage: A Visual Guide to Techniques".

Essentials of Anatomy and Physiology

I have not even gotten them yet, but I had read a few reviews about them and I cant wait to get them in the next few days. I'm trying to hold off for my financial aide, but I may not be able to wait that long I'm to excited. We start classes the 15th.

I have to say though that I will probably get the anatomy book off of amazon! The school wants 120 bucks for new and 75 for used. I can get new for around 45 and used for 12 off of amazon! I'm all about supporting my school etc, and I will be getting most of my books from there, but that one is marked up waaaay to much!

We are using Theory & Practice of therapeutic Massage 4th Edition by Mark F. Beck. There are a couple more books we will be referencing throughout the course, however I'm not sure of the names of those.

For K&P we are using the latest edition of Trail Guide to the Body.

We just switched out A&P books and I can see the cover, with the guy & gal in jumping positions against a brown background, but I can't think of the title to save my life right now...

As for massage I & II, we are using a new book called "Introduction to Massage Therapy" by Mary Beth Braun & Stephanie Simonson.

So far, I've been banging my head against the wall since I have a homework/lecture happy teacher who assigns us all the questions from the chapter review and doesn't seem to realize the time involved in some of these questions - you have to write an essay for some of them, it feels like! (For example: Question 7 of Ch 3 Review - list of 13 drugs that we are supposed to use a PDR to look up, give generic name, what the drug is for, what type of drug - i.e. - anti-depressant, anti-imflamatory, antibiotic - and side effects. So, 3 lines of writing per drug - I've taken up like a full page just for one question!)

Okay, one last drug to look up for this chapter and then I'm done.... I've only been working on the drugs for oh, an hour or so here.....
