When do the massages start in school?

Will start school in the Fall but am wondering at what seforum.xxxe do the massages start?  Are the massages done in a classroom?  Ok, how do you get undressed and get on a table?  I'm trying to picture this in my head.    Sure hope I like the other people in my class!Thanks.Cindy

When do the massages start in school?

Cindy, I think it varies at every school. In my class we did hand massages the first day and then in the second week we got into the massages. It's a little nerve-wracking at first, but you get used to it quickly! We have stations set up in the classroom so that a curtain can be pulled around each table (sort of like what you might see in a hospital.) This provides privacy for when people are getting dressed or undressed and then the curtains are opened when everyone is on the table.If you're anxious, you could always ask to talk to current students or graduates about their experience. Each school is different.  We started Day #1 with hands on, just working on the face that first day.  As far as undressing, etc., each school is different there too.  Some have you undress on the table, under the sheets, others have a "changing area" and you wrap up in the sheet and get on the table and unwrap.  You need to check with your school on that.Don't worry, you will become very friendly and familiar with everyone in the class.  It feels kinda awkward at first, but everyone quickly warms up and you end up feeling like family.  Everyone is nervous about it all to start.

On your first day, look around at all the faces you see there. You'll find it hard to believe at first but before you know it you will feel like those people are members of your family. We got on our tables on the 2nd day of classes. The first day we did some trust exercises. I thought it was corny at first but afterwards I understood why we really did need to trust one another. At my school, half of the students would leave the room while the other half got undressed and got on the tables. We were shy at first, got under the sheet and then whipped our shirts off, lol. But after awhile we knew eachother so well and trusted one another so much that we were less modest.

We began hands-on fairly quickly, fully clothed, allowing everyone to get comfortable with touching and being touched. It was a couple of months in before we began working with clothes off. At our school, the rooms have hospital type curtains that create private booths. The curtains get pulled closed, the recipient undresses and gets on the table, then the curtains are opened again so that the room is completely open.It took a while for everyone to get into the idea of rotating around and working with each other, but eventually we all got pretty comfortable. It does become like a large family, only with a lot more physical contact than some of us ever grew up with  :.

We too began hands on fairly quickly! The first day we did a few trust games and I agree with SpiritedJen they did seem pretty corny at the time but you realize why we needed to trust eachother. 2nd day of class we did some hand massages and the 3rd day we began massaging with clothes on to get a feel for it. By the 2nd week we were on the tables undressed and learning draping and now it doesn't seem so awkwrd.  We have the hospital type curtains, that are closed while we undress and get on the table and when everyone is ready the curtains are opened in the front but the sides are still closed.And yes by now everyone feels like one big family! We all look out for one another and call eachother when one of us are absent. It's funny cause we have only known each other for 2 weeks and we have all pretty much bonded fairly quickly. A big help is everyone gets along even with the  age differences.You'll do just fine and all that undressing will be second nature, as your learning you don't think about seeing people unclothed, you see a body to help and learn on. And it's fun!!

That's interesting that you all started doing some kind of massage so fast after starting. I just finished my first week and it went very well. But as far as starting to do massages, we don't do it till the second term. I want to wish everyone good luck and have fun.

At the first school I ever went to for massage, we did assessment /greeting moves over the sheets, practiced draping technique, and did the basic strokes on the back on the very first day! It was great, and scary, and wonderful. I think we did something like holding up the flat sheet to create a 'dressing corner' for each other & then learned very quickly how to coordinate hopping on the table & undo-ing our burrito wrapped selves at the same time. Some of us were feeling a bit shocked. I didn't have any problem (I was a dancer in big shows.... I got dressed & undressed in front of seforum.xxxehands & other dancers every night). I was, though, completely obsessed after that first day. I wanted to effleurage everybody! I remember trying to 'marry' my tai chi pushing hands & doing the actual massage strokes on the back of the couch! ha ha. *you are really making me take a trip down memory lane... thanks*Jill/sagetherapist

Thanks for all the replies.  It's fun hearing how other schools gein their massage work.I did find out that at the school I want to attend they start massage teh very first night.  I was told that you get under the blanket and sheet and take off your clothes.  They also said that state policy says you have to leave your bra and panties on.  This is good to know!    I would have been the one whipping everything off and looking like a dork!!    My MT, who teaches at this school, said that he had one girl get undressed right it front of him and the whole class!  She did it every time and had no problem.  I can't even imagine!  It's going to be hard enough getting undressed under the sheets let alone in front of everyone.Thanks again for responding.Cindy

   My MT, who teaches at this school, said that he had one girl get undressed right it front of him and the whole class!  She did it every time and had no problem.  I can't even imagine!  It's going to be hard enough getting undressed under the sheets let alone in front of everyone.

I can't believe someone is that audacious to just strip down in front of everyone!  That's crazy!  I guess she felt good about her body!  I'm planning to start MT school in September and am very, very nervous because of my weight.  I'm sure, as the days pass, I will get more comfortable.  Thanks for this post...it was fun to read!

Our school has a one-day, hands-on seminar you're advised to attend prior to beginning to school. The first day of class, we started giving massages (simple strokes, draping, etc.).s...78 - don't worry about your weight. Not to discount your concerns, but you will probably not be the only person in your class conscious of their weight. Have fun. It's gonna be a great ride!!!

My school started with learning how to tent the burrito wrap so that we could turn everyone and stay modest (which I learned today that someone I was working with on a couples massage didn't remember!!!).  Anyway, we started massaging the 2nd day with the feet, and it was so hysterical that everyone was afraid to show a little leg!!! oh my god, I need to shave!!!  You can't see my legs with hair on them!!! it was hysterical... and a big reality check.  One of the women was from London and kept yelling at everyone that we are all real women and we don't have to appologize, just get on the table!!!  The first week everyone had to go change behind the curtain, then after that we learned how to strip under the sheet or just whipped it off by the end.  We had a woman from switzerland in the class and she was already an MT over there... she started with day one down to the thong no problem...  it was us americans that had the problem.  I really got over my body issues right away.  I am still modest and respectfull but I learned that I am a real woman and EVERYONE has celulite... I can prove it to you...

In my school we started the first day.  we had to come to school with a sheet and a towel (*we progress slowly to sheets) and were given a dress code ecetera prior to class.  on the first day we had our orientation with the principal and then after we met our teachers etc, we went to the restrooms and changed.. just took off our tops (bras too in my school.. city ordinance says we have to wear panties) and we did a basic back massage.. it was nice to get right into it so that we weren't nervous about it actually happening.. but it was all good..   although i do have to say that we pretty much just strip down in the bathrooms, at least the girls pretty much do, although there are some who prefer to be in the stall, which is okay too.. have fun at school and you will be surprised at how much you learn!

I used to perform in a travelling folk dance ensemble of some 40 people where the costume changing area might be (1) separate men's and women's dressing rooms, (2) a single dressing room, or (3) a dark space backseforum.xxxe just big enough to hang your stuff up.Then the sleeping arrangements:  they ranged from private rooms at a motel or hostel to the floor of a gymnasium.Sometimes we didn't even have separate bathrooms.We just got used to doing what we had to do.  Once at the office I actually started to take my pants off in my cubicle to change for an evening event I was going to.  Whoah!  Stopped myself just in time.It's amazing how strongly programmed we Americans in the ways of modesty, despite (or maybe because of) all the titillating TV and movies and magazines we are exposed to.I wish that programming extended to other things such as honesty and cleaner language, but that's just my personal taste!

i just finish my first term we started doing massages the 3day of class like chair massages facial massage feet and hand massage next week we going to learning how to do a full body massage theirs 16 girls and me and another guy so all the girl are afraid to get undress but the my teacher told then to dont worry that they will get use to it well good luck to everyone its real fun
