Which bone has the greatest number of muscle attachements?

Thought perhaps a student could help me out and confirm or correct the accuracy of my info

I wanted to double check that the occiput has the greatest number of muscle attachments compared to any other bone. According to my sources, I have the following muscles attaching to the occiput:

Rectus capitus lateralis (2)
Rectus capitus anterior (2)
Longus capitus (2)
Occipitalis (1)
Semispinalis capitis (2)
Splenius capitis (2)
Trapezius (1)
Rectus capitis posterior minor (2)
Rectus capitis posterior major (2)
Obliquus capitis superior (2)

Am I right?

Which bone has the greatest number of muscle attachements?

I was doing some research and stumbled upon the answer to this in the book The Heart of Listening by Hugh Milne. Thought I'd share in case anyone else is curious

The mandible has the most muscle group attachments of any bone on the cranium (16). The scapula has the most muscle attachments of any other bone in the body (17).

Mandible muscle attachments are:
temporalis
masseter
lateral pterygoids
medial pterygoids
buccinator
depressor anguli oris
orbicularis oris
depressor labii inferioris
hyoglossus
mylohyoid
digastric
platysma
geniohyoid
mentalis
superior pharyngeal constrictor
genioglossus

And as another interesting tidbit - "136 muscles above and below the mandible pivot the jaw, also moving it forward as the mouth opens." Holy crap that's a lot of input affecting one bone! :shocked:
