Xmas Week in Patong- Too Crowded?

I have a trip planned to Bkk, and as usual was planning to stay in Pattaya for a few days. Of course, I quickly found that many hotels are already booked. I'm sure I could find someplace, but I was wondering if maybe the crowds will cramp the fun somewhat. I was there during May, and had a great time, but maybe I should stay in BKK or venture to Phuket again. For those of you that have experienced both hi and low season, what do you think. Are the BG's overconfident, and difficult to get good prices out of? Do you find that there is more competition for the superstars?

I tried to get to Phuket last year, but my flight on Bangkok Airways was scheduled for noon on Dec 26th. Needless to say it was canceled, and I was forced to spend the rest of my trip in BKK.

What do you expect the Xmas season to be like in Patong this year? I really like chasing the gorgeous classy ones, but being an over the hill 46 year old, I may have trouble with the younger competition.

Whilst we all hope that this will be a good high season, I really dont think so. Although it cannot be worse than last year.

I booked the trip for my wife and girls 2 months ago and I had to hurry, because everything was almost booked for that period!

Well i hope so for you guys, for me it can be a bit quieter!

What is happening at the moment, and will continue to be the way for sometime I believe, is that most folks are arriving on cheap packages, and mostly are not the mongering type. They eat, drink and whatever else in the package accommodations, and only venture out to see what else is happening. Rarely do these peps venture into the naughty nightlife.

Any more thoughts on that BMs package holiday, Steve?

OK an explanation is due, when I was in my cups last trip, Steve and I, had this brain wave to arrange a BMs package holiday!

We would charter the airplanes, organise the accommodation, airport transfers etc.

This could be charged almost 'at cost' to the BMs, and the organisers would benefit by increased business.

Well it sounded like a grand plan when you've had a skinful of Heinekin

I was with my sis last night out in town.. Shes an ex Patong FL now doing the happy families bit, so she knows the scene and score..

We were sat in a bar people watching, commenting not only on the amount of people but she turns round and says "even the onmes here not look like spend much money.. Too many young man only looking" "Cannot see any crazy party men" etc.. She saw a group of maybee 8 or 10 farang women go into SW gogo and instantly said "Ohh they will really spend a lot of money" meaning they are going in for a look and to be daring but hardly going to set the place on fire and buy lady drinks all round or ring any bells..

I thought it was funny that her BG radar was still working... Assessing the crowd.. Looking for the whales.. Checking the punters..

Hrm must admit worrying reading on how booked up everything apparently is, im still not able to commit to a set of dates yet so unable to book anything. Hope I get somewhere! Mind fairly easy going on hotel or apartment/villa as im looking for a 3 month stay. I was thinking of these guys : http://www.pacific-club-phuket.com/index.html they offered me a 20% discount for longer term stays in their King's 2 Bedroom Suite (although I had enquired about a year stay). I notice they added 10 000 baht to their prices since past few months tho! :

Was just watching the crowds in SeaDragon, and there are alot more peps walking around at the moment. Saw a group of say 5 or 6 middle aged couples go into one of the agogo's, and then come out again not 30 seconds later. Shock horror!!!

This was just one of such groups walking doing much the same thing. I guess they were on their way back to the hotel after eating dinner, and took a wrong turn or something.

This reminds of why we sold out and left Samui all those years ago. The airlines started packaging, and this was not good for the bar scene in Chaweng. Even the restaurant guys were complaining how these folks were eating and drinking in the resorts.

This is a discussion I have had with Erik1, we could do that in at least 4 different languages (English, dutch, french, german), working at the same time in Phuket and Europe... don't give up, it's a good idea
