I disagree with you and Marc26, if you are in a situation where violence is your only recourse then you have already done something wrong, if violence is your first recourse then you are stupid beyond our abilities to help. I'd much rather avoid a fight in the first place then have to use violence, as the the old axiom goes "prevention is better then cure". Its much easier to win a fight if you don't start it.

I'd be ashamed of myself if I did get involved, especially if it had nothing to do me in the first place. If I were lying in that hospital bed it doesn't matter who else is there, I'd be thinking of what my mother would say if she were there, I was raised better then that.

My point was that its better to avoid a fight altogether. PawYai was talking about jumping into a fight that had nothing to do with him out of his own sense of moral outrage, this seems stupid to me as I (or PawYai) would have no idea of the conditions under which the fight began. The Farang in question may rightfully be receiving a good kicking, then again maybe not either way its smarter not to get involved.

Well i guess thats a potential dilemma that someone may have to face but personally there no way in the world i'm gonna stand there and watch my mate get the sh1t kicked out of him. You'd be surprised how much adrenelin kicks in when faced with that scenario, trust me i've been there.

You see my opinion is, even for someone i didn't know, how can any human being see someone getting beat up and not help out. I understand the Thai thing and not wanting trouble on holiday etc etc but that part wouldn't enter my head i would have reacted to the situation first. One of my pet hates is outnumbered contests, its cowardly and pathetic, which is why Thais resort to it.....

Yep, don't get involved if it's not your business.
Protect yourself always has to be the first order because without that, you sure can't help anyone else.

But you don't just sit back and give a running commentary on the proceedings or video it for your own enjoyment or that of others when you know it is wrong and at the same time it offends your sense of decency and fair play, unless you are a hypocrite.

PY is talking about the way witnessing something like this makes him feel.
Doesn't mean you wade into every little conflict like superman.

Sometimes there is very little you can do about it at the time, but if you still feel strongly enough about it there is plenty more you can do after the event.

Most people are only in Thailand for a short time so they just keep quiet and accept the unacceptable simply because they have somewhere else to go at the end of the day.

If you are in a position to properly assess the situation for what it is and also have the ability to act in the best interests of a fellow human being then you should not hesitate to act according to your own beliefs and judgment.

Again, JMHO, you're not going to get any hassle unless you give it from my experience down and around Bangla etc I've had more hassle from drunks who can hardly focus on me, seforum.xxxgering and bumping into me and suggesting I did it on purpose etc! I just ignore the wankers.

Nobody has ever come up to me and given me a slap for me to want to give them a slap back! If I've started the slapping then I could understand getting one back.

If you do wade in, knowing the situation in Thailand, the Police, the courts, the hospitals, the prices of medical attention etc then 'up to you' as they say. Expect it to be painful and expensive and a 'different' holiday experience to write up on 'Trip Advisor' or whatever.

It's all circumstancial IMHO when all said and done. I see the shirtless wonders wandering around with their bottles in hand goading Thai's, almost touching noses and spitting at them, screaming for a reaction so they can take a swing and am surprised at the restraint some of these Thai's have had in not responding to that..............at that time!!!!.......that idiot will then be followed discretely down the Soi's by that Thai and several of his mates contacted on the mobile until the time is right and the young idiot will receive the kicking of his life!

Revenge is a dish best served cold...........and normally with about ten mates in tow and possibly with a broken bottle or knife as well! Not worth it.

I guess I am just trying to warn folk to be aware. Try and have your wits about you and try and stay out of it or give reason for anything to erupt into a fight in the first place. Enjoy your ale, enjoy the company, enjoy the place for what it is! I guess if you go looking for trouble and have that kind of attitude whilst down Bangla way..........You'll find it and when I hear the shouting, glass breaking and security running towards the other end of Tiger...........Someone usually has!

Kind of looks like under Tiger to me, isn't that the Jagger bar in the background, and can just about see a quick glimpse of the Crazy Horse sign...the video being shot looking toward Bangla. I think the fight is in front of the Puma bar or Wet dreams on the left side of the video, but hard to tell.
