Bar Fine craziness

your summation makes total sense, and although i still think this talk of bar fines is still very cheap, if the bar owner was around and it was a situation where you do drink at that bar regularly and he wouldnt bend the rules a little bit, then you do start to think what kinda guy he is and why you are spending money in his bar.
even if it wasnt for the board and i found MTB by accident, i would still make thata adaily stop because they know me there, the welcome i get from kwan and noi. people that drink in bars like to feel a connection, a familarity. and again, if a bar owner isnt gonna treat his regular customers different from other customers than you would question why you spend so much time there.
i have a regular bar in karon that i frequent. it kinda works different, you have to pay 1200baht for the girl before you leave the bar, 1000 for her 200 for the bar and she gets the money the next day. its kinda different but also protectes the girl from getting screwed over in the room. anyways, me being a regular, sometimes i would end up with the one girl i take from there, and not pay that night, or be in the bar and not have the 1200 on me, but being a regular, the owner knew i was good for it and never made it an issue.
also, he had 2 girls working there that could make decisions for him when he wasnt around, which i think every bar owner should do

After many visits to a pool bar I finally managed to persuade a girl I've liked for many months to come with me knowing that she had never been with a farang before. She was off work at 3am but at 2.10 I asked the cashier if I could bar fine her and was told I'd have to pay 500baht as that was the bar fine set by the owner (a Belgian guy). The bar at the time was dead quiet and there were other girls sat around doing nothing so even if I took my girl away and other customers showed up there were still staff to see to them.

I tried to barter the fine with the cashier saying it was crazy I had to pay 500 baht for 50 minutes when there were no customers anyway and that I was a good customer of theirs, going in 3 or 4 times a week. I offered her 200baht but she said the fine was 500. I tried to reason with her that it was better for the bar to make 200 than nothing at all because if she didn't accept it I would just wait till 3am...but she just wouldn't have it.

So I went off and came back at 3 and took the girl.

That's extremely poor business and bad for customer relations in my view. Why, if the bar fine is 500 doesn't the owner have a sliding scale depending on the time left till the bar closes....say if it's 2 hours before the bar closes 300 baht fine, and 1 hour before say 200?

I know 200bt is nothing, And I certainly would not be crying about it but some BMs are just seeing it as 200bt, Whereas others see it as a matter of princeble!!

Either way I knew I would eventually get you too see it my way..55555..

So if you have been given numerous on the house drinks through out your drinking session, do you still think you should get a discount on the bar fine. Most owners give out on the house drinks, I know i do, but cutting bar fines is another issue.

To fair if the owner/manager is not around, then staff normally dont have authority to discount anything. There have been lots of previous discussions about bar fines, I wont go into my usual bar fine rant.

I said nothing about knocking BFs on the head, All I said was in the this circumstance it would be good buisness to give a little leigh way.

Anyway moving onto your point about starting a trend, It just wont happen no: In the same sence that its presumed that everyone just gives the girls 1000bt as a golden rule! But not everyone does do they????

But Lets say for instance you had a choice to pay a BF or not, And your sitting at a bar with a bloke that does not want to pay the BF and you's both fancy the same girl.... Who wins??? Of course its the guy who pays the BF!!

And just one of many reasons why it wont happen and I repeat again, I never said you should do away with BFs and if you had read my post properly you would have seen that.

Every case is individual so its not always clear cut, And the BMs case that started off this whole thread is different, And if I was the owner of that particular bar, I would have given a little leigh way but im not saying you should cut out BFs altogether, And I never did say it either, Nor did I ever say that I wanted a discount on any BF, What I did say though was that I would wait the 50mins aswell, Instead of having to pay it, And thats my choice to do so, But it could also backfire on me if a guy comes along with 10mins to go and BF the girl I am after, And then I would look a right fool!!!

And yes some bar owners do give out free drinks, And that is another great way to reward your customers, And thats certainly another insentive for the customer to return, Which I am sure there is many more.

It's a very simple matter. Rules are rules. If they start giving employees and BGs leeway to bargain on the BFs, then the there won't be any order at all. It would be easy for a staffer or a girl to charge the customer 500, and tell the owner they discounted the fine to 200. Also, if they had a sliding scale, then too many guys would be waiting til a later hour to save a few hundred Baht.

If you don't like paying 500, then why not go to a bar where the BF is only 200. You go to the bar where the fine is 500, then don't expect to get a discount.

If you dont like to pay 500, then go somewhere else where thebarfine is lower.. But to sit and argue about 300bath=5.60 euro=3.74GBP sounds stupid for me at least...

And honestly... As a owner i would get realy pissed about that behavior....Guys sitting and spending a couple of thousand bath on drinks, and then is cheap charlِie about the barfine..

Agree with JayBee, sliding scale only makes touble. (when should you get discount, and how much) Barfines are low and importent for the buisness, and with a fixed price you can take it or leave it. In this case you could buy a beer and wait until 3.

Question for you : Imagine having used a bus to travel to work every day for the last 2 years. You had bought monthly season tickets and paid your way - you are a good customer of the bus company. Now, you change jobs and don't use the bus anymore as you are working a lot closer to home and walk the short distance (2 stops) to your home. After 2 weeks, it is raining as you leave work and you see the bus is at the stop, but you have no money. Do you get on the bus and expect the driver to allow you to travel for free ?? Just because you have been a good customer ??

No and here's why, First of all like in the circumstance of the origanal post, The bus driver is not the owner of the buisness, He is only staff

Secondly its a totally different sort of buisness of which none are exactly the same, Because when you own a bar unlike a bus, You can talk to the customer personally and get to know the individual pensonally.

And let me ask you question? Have you even been on a bus, And lets your bus pass does not work or was destroyed in the washing machine and is unreadable? How is the bus driver to know your legit? And of all the buses I have been on the majority of the bus drivers would let you on the bus regardless, And some would let you get on even if you where short a few cents

And another thing I never assumed anything about getting a reduction in the BF, I said that it would be in the best interests of the bar to give a little leigh way in circumstances like that and if it was my bar I would but in no-way did I ever say that I assumed it to be the case.

The mechanic's of life?? See now your just being patronizing, Age does not teach you anything, Its the wisdom you pick up in between the years, And some people can live until there 90yrs of age and still gain none, And other's could die at 20yrs old with all the wisdom in the world!!!

I can honestly say in all the visits i have made to los i have never even asked how much is the bar fine if i see a girl i want to spend some time with and she wants to go i just simply say pay bar for lady and then pay my bar billwhen i leave for the sake of 100 or even 300 bhat its not worth bothering about . You should be like me sitting here on a nightshift in Scotland watching the mai tai bar webcam I would gladly pay the bar fine for some of those young ladies on duty tonight 5555

Barfines are non negotiable for reasons listed above, you may be able to wait until 3am in the low season for the girl to finish work but during high season she will probably get barfined earlier by someone else then you may miss out on the girl of your choice for the sake of a few hundred baht.

I will go against the flow here and agree with you landofsmiles, I dont see any point in paying a 500bt BF with only 50mins left to go, I would rather spend that money on the girl, And I totally disagree that its being cheap charlie, Its just common sence and nobody likes to be ripped off and thats how I would feel if I was in that situation as I have said previously.

And thats especially if you are a regular customer at the bar, If I owned a bar, And I had a customer who regularly drinks there and wanted to take a girl out of the bar with 50mins left to go, There was no other customer's about and it was quiet, Then I think its good buisness to let the girl go for 200bt instead of 500bt, But hey thats just IMHO.....

When i was last in LOS of smiles i had talked with a very nice Bg and got on really well, played connect4 etc but then realised i was low on funds so told the girl i was leaving to get more cash and would be back in 5 mins. I hadn't walked 150yds when she rushed up to me and said she had left bar to be with me. My question is therefore , and not I realise entirley relevant to this thread, did she pay her own BF or did the bar owner waive it?

Maybe she thought you were not coming back or maybe she liked you
