and i know that it has now sprouted into the principle of it, but what principle when you are talking about 5-7usd.
another example is when you stay in LOS a long time, and hang out at the same places, you know which guys are spenders and will buy you a drink and which guys stand back and let others buy them drinks. im a drink buyer, been my whole life, but thats my choice, and i dont look down on a guy that doesnt buy others drinks, i just make a mental note and try not to buy them many drinks. ive had friends in the US, my brothers the worst, who will remind you that they just bought that round, your next. if your buying rounds you shouldnt worry or expect it back, it would be nice, but you shouldnt expect it!

sorry, another post by me.
a good example of a bar owner knowing his regulars and treating them differently is nicke. there is many times that i go back and forth from MTB to my girls bar and many times i walk into MTB with a beer that i havent bought from MTB. in other bars i would feel funny about doing that, but nicke knows i spend enough in his bar, and buy drinks for his staff, that i am sure( i hope) that he doesnt mind

When you are in farangland you are more aware of how much you're spending it's psychological that you think LOS is cheap therefore you end up spending more it's real easy to get through 10k in a day without thinking about it.

i thinkin LOS, you really have to be real conscious of not spending money to save money. i tried unsuccessfully, to go out 4 nights and stay in 3 nights and only spend 1000 on days i didnt go out. the actual days that i didnt go out, i could keep under a 1000, but that was few and far between, i wish i was one of thoise people content on drinking on my balcony, relaxing, but im addicted to the action

I'm glad I am not one of those people that can sit on their balcony on their own drinking instead of going out, I only ever drink socially and go on tour to meet people and experience a different culture or place, got plenty of time to sit around back in Uk. I do not seem to be able to calculate a budget because everyday is different and I never averaged it back from the whole trip. The last trip I decided sensibly not to take out my wallet just shove x,000 bt in my pocket, it was also songkran so wallet would have been soaked, never seemed to work out right amount to take out and its all so dependent on the people you are with and timing on rounds. Like you I tend to be a buyer of drinks rather than a counter or hanger back, so if i'm on the move and keep meeting people I know it can be more cost than if I stay put for awhile.

i was atlking about when i was in LOS for almost 5 months. i wouldnt stay in at all if i was there on holiday. but you think i could manage twice a week on a 5month trip? didnt come close

Yeah I noticed this is something that i do by mistake and have noticed a number of others also guilty of the same thing and that is you tend to reply considering your own experiences. Didn't consider people go for 5 months etc only thinking from a 2 week one month holiday point of view because to date that's all I have done. If there for 5 months of course you need to stay in at least once in awhile to recharge the batteries.
Then you would need to consider budget much more unless of course you were either wealthy or income continued even in your absence.
You have intrigued me now, but if my next question is not rude or shouldn't be answered in an open forum then accept my apologise, how did you manage to get away for 5 months?

I think I spend about 30-35,000 a week there just on girls and booze and a little food 555.
I do like to drink and am only a little bloke so I just can’t go drink for drink all night with the physically bigger blokes.
I try not to get into shouts as I feel guilty if I leave before it is my turn to buy a shout.
At MTB when the black deaths turn up, if they are not from Nicke I would have rather been asked, but what do you do? not take the drink and risk offending some one or take the drink and hope that you can get the guy a drink next time?
I have always avoided shouts in my country as you for ever seem to be trying to keep up to the big drinkers. The inevitable that happens is that I end up drunker than I wanted to be and feeling the worse for it the next day. I do not know how some of guys can go home and bonk with a BG after getting really hammered. Guess that is what the blue diamonds are for but that is not my cup of tea.
I have been caught up in the “free” shooters in Pattaya in a Go Go that I used to frequent and then I would get into the what the farg mode and end up with a girl that I wouldn’t have picked without the beer goggles on and then usually end up shouting far more drinks then I would have if I was not as drunk. I do shout drinks when I want to. I am more inclined to shout the staff a drink to be honest as I figure that the other farangs can afford their own. I do not see many people shout male staff so if I do shout staff I shout them all.
Shouting the male DJ can also help to get your preferred music played in some places.
I know some people do it as an act of friendliness and that is why I am more inclined to drink a shooter put in front of me as to say no thanks, but if asked before hand in most instances I would say thanks but no thanks. It is just to easy for me to get to drunk to quick falling into that trap and I have done it before and they can go down real easy and real quick.
I also don’t dig waking up with half the day gone and feeling like shite until well into the afternoon/evening and paying a BG and can’t remember if I bonked her when we got back or not.
I can do that at home if I just want to get hammered without spending the cost of international airfare to do it.
I also go diving, of the scuba kind as well, so I don’t want to be to hammered the night before.

I am also like a maggot on a hot chop and will go from place to place if I feel like it or I haven’t made my choice for the night yet. So getting locked into shouts usually doesn’t fit my SOP.

Don’t get me wrong I do enjoy the company of some of the farangs I meet there be they BM’s or not but I am primarily there for the female company and if I get that messed up that I don’t enjoy it, or even worse I have bar fined them, both been hammered then you pay them for their time with no physical reward. Good night for them, but in my books i do not go there to get BGs and myself that drunk that bugger all happens when you get back to the room.

I have never been lucky enough to go to LOS for any longer than about 4 weeks at any one time and it is usually about 2 weeks for me, so an easy night is go out early get a girl only a few drinks and then down to business. Stay in and not partake does not enter my head but that is also as the only poon tang I get is when I am in LOS so I am also making up for lost time. :biggrinlo

It is easy to fall into the trap of bartering for everything and then I have found myself bartering over 10 or 20 baht, usually after you have been in LOS a while.
What brings me back to reality is when I convert the baht that I am bartering over back to my money. No it is not 10 dollars it is 10 baht, I probably wouldn’t even bend over to pick that amount up in the street at home and also what is it to me, nothing and what is it to them, maybe a meal. I don’t allow myself to let this happen any more.
If my budget is that tight that I have to barter for 10 or 20 baht I shouldn’t be there.
I do not barter any more for small stuff and I will some times tip but not always.
If I think it is not worth it I just don’t buy it.

I have never asked a BG to do my washing, that is as tight as a fishes a(x)rse and that is water tight. Bet they give the girls a big tip in the morning, be kind to your mum 555.

The tread has been going a while...but then I don't log in very often.

Just wanted to put my two cents to say that Im not a believer in trying to discount bar fines as long as I'm paying the same amount as the next chap.

After all part of the fine goes to the bar owner, who is likely having a tough time in Phuket these days, and the other part to the lady of your choice. Besides there's a whole face thing involved for the BG.
