newbie? never watched anime before wanted to check it out..just watched episode one berserk and it seems that theres like some bad king and the a swordmans whos destined to defeate a controlling king? am i close?
 
First off, read the Berserk manga. So much better and explanatory.

Second: Guts is the Black Swordsman. He travels the land killing the demonic "Apostles" and seeking revenge on his former ally-turned-demon-god Griffith. The sums up the first episode pretty nicely, me thinks.
