Chair Massage in Schools?

Hi, chatters:

I am going to be approaching my local school district about providing chair massage for teachers and administration. I am presuming that those interested in receiving a 10-20 minute massage in the Teacher's Lounge or wherever will just pay me by cash or check for the session (versus the school providing it as an "employee benefit" etc.)

Do any of you have experience in working in school systems? If so, I would appreciate any and all advice.

I would also love to provide chair massage for nurses at the hospital (especially ICU) during their breaks. Have any of you done this? If so, who do you contact and how did you start your hospital practice?

I did one session of chair massage in a school. The principal paid for it as a staff wellness benefit. However, I haven't been able to get back in. (There is a new principal.) It was an alternative high school (for kids that can't function in a normal school) and part of the deal was that I would speak to one class of students about stress and ways of dealing with it. I also massaged all the staff.

It is a little easier to schedule chair massage in high schools than in grade schools as high school teachers get free periods, which grade school teachers don't.

You could approach the PTA or principal and offer gift certificates for trial massages, perhaps for teacher appreciation. Once they have been in the chair, they are usually hooked.

I have been trying, although only putting out feelers so far, to get in to the local hospital. The biggest problem there is that the staff have no spare time these days. They are often run off their feet for their entire shift. Yes, I know that's when they need it the most, but it is hard to convince people of that.

If I end up getting that one, I'd have to hire more practitioners.

I plan to approach the high school first because as you indicated they do have free periods. I know the principal (my stepson is a senior this year) so plan to approach him first. If that works, I would also approach the Junior High School across the street. I just feel in my heart that teachers and nurses are some of the most deserving of chair massage breaks! My daughter is a high school teacher and I know her work schedule! And I have had so many members of my family in the ICU and hospital and have watched nurses working abominable shifts and still smiling -- while they are hurting all over.

Somehow I intend to approach the hospital, too. I realize that will be more complicated -- but I am pretty determined. Going to start with the schools first and will keep you posted.

I remember doing a chair massage to the council staff full of professionals as of like, chiros nurses doctors therapists of the such as part of my passing grade. later we all met at dinner, it was a success, and a joyful experience,
