Classmates won't work with me

Sorry Blisterpeanuts, I'm not trying to hijack your thread

Don't worry, Grapeseed; I don't get offended by "hijackers" except the kind who fly planes into tall buildings. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one going through "growing pains" in this program. As I said in my other posting, I think that people will grow up a little and settle down once they have worked on a few more "general public", whom they can't pick and choose. I had two real sweeties yesterday; one had never had a massage before and at the end, she was just glowing and floating on a cloud and had this big grin on her face. I know that I'll probably learn more from working on the monsters but it's nice to have a pleasant afternoon occasionally!

why would you want to force someone to work with you? you don't really have any idea why they choose not to. When I was in school there were a couple of people who always worked with the same couple of individuals. One had suicide scars all over her and didn't want anyone she didn't trust to see them. Another had been severely molested as a child and certain people triggered her, men especially. would you want the teacher to force them to work with you?

you may not think they have a good reason, but they might. or they may just not want to work with you because it seems like you have spent alot of time lecturing and intimidating people for doing things you don't like. I'm sorry but I would have probably been "unavailable" to work with you also.

i guess that's not very PC but it's reality.

Well, wemoonspirit, I think you're jumping to conclusions as regards my personality, but you do make sound points regarding jumping to conclusions about why someone might be picky about practice partners. Sorry I've given you such a negative impression; it wasn't my goal to make enemies here.. Anyway I guess I've ranted enough on this topic so I'll stop now.

Don't stop responding to your own post because of what was just said.

IMO....you are in school to learn first and foremost! Sorry that isn't an opinion that is a fact! Anyway, IF someone is refusing to massage YOU because THEY have been molested or have suicide scar....that is their problem and they need to get out of massage school. I don't pick and choose my clients they pick and choose me. I will NEVER refuse to work on anyone because I have a hang up about something that has happened to me. I touch people of every race and color and god knows what else every single day. Will I stop just because I was raped years ago? NO!
You are in massage school to learn how to massage if these classmates are uneasy with a fellow classmate working and learning on them they have issues that needed to be worked out prior to ever enrolling in massage school. I can about bank on it that 95% of the class didn't know each other prior to starting school. They learned to trust one person they can learn to trust the next student.

I have clients that lecture me on what they want and are very demanding....do i refuse to work on them ...no. It comes with the job.
Myself I would have been available to work with you. I changed partners every chance I could. Its called learning and that is what I was there for. I knew I needed to feel different bodies and what not to get the feel of what it was going to be like. Today I am VERY thankful I did that.
Your classmates are doing themselves a disservice by sticking to just one person in class. You, Blisternuts., realize the value working on as many people as possible.

I wish you the very best and I hope things work out for you. Don't let people intimdate you. Stand your ground and don't ever stoop to the level of your classmates.

i have to say that i agree a bit with wemoonspirit. why would you want to bother wasting your time working with someone who doesn't want to work with you (whatever the reason). i say who cares. if you truly want to get your hands on different people, find other massage therapists outside of class. massage therapists are VERY willing to receive a massage from students and you'll learn even more with their feedback. it's a great way to add to your education.

i was one of those students who wouldn't work with certain people in my class. granted, there were a lot of students in my class but there were definitely people i did not want to work on and others that i did not want them working with me. that's just the way it is. sounds like you've made yourself a bit of an outcast. that's not a bad thing, it's just what it is. as long as you know who you are and what you're looking to learn and achieve from your education, who cares what everyone else is doing.
