Anyone ever been stopped by cops after leaving an mp, to be asked what you were doing in there and what services they provided?

Is that a legitimate reason to pull someone over?

Cops have to have a reason to pull you over. Asking what you were doing in anywhere is a no no. You have the right to refuse to answer the question and request the reason you were pulled over.

This a problem at SC's where the girls are pulled over and asked what they do in there. They refuse to answer and request they be charged with something or let go. I got this from a gal I dated for a while.

1 night I walked out of Elite in Scarborough (Midland/Finch area) and there was a cruiser with 2 coppers right outside the door. They asked what happened, and I stated that I just went in talked to a few girls and decided to leave. I mentioned the girls were not pleasing and I went on my merry way. ...FYI, I haven't been back since.

Several years back my buddy and I went into a MP near WAGG and left shortly after since we were told there was an hour wait. As soon as we pulled out of the parking lot, cherries came on and we pulled over. Cop asked for insurance/ownership...came back about 10 minutes later. Told us that several vehicles were getting stolen there, and since my vehicle was only in the lot for a few minutes he was suspicious. He did not hassle us or question us at all...he recommended to park elsewhere next time (there was no next time) as they had a fairly elaborate car theft thing going on.

... But suspicion of what? The only criminal charge that can be laid is being "found-in" a bawdy house. Surely being pulled-over after having exited one cannot be suspicious in any way then.

I agree with the poster above - cops have to identify why they pulled you over, including any suspicions. If there is not a grounds for "arrest" (which is comes from the French word arret, meaning stop), then you are free to go at any time.

that's true, maybe still lots of car got stolen in that area. I had my car stolen @ the WAGG parking lot several years ago.

I was stopped randomly, not MP related, but I asked the police officer why I was pulled over. The reason I was given, was to check to see the licence status of the driver and to ensure that the vehicle was properly insured while being operated on the street. Sounded reasonable. I wasn't speeding or anything, just random.

Wow, here in Michigan theres no such thing as random stops. The police need a reason to stop you. Now sure they can say you were driving too fast, slow not straight but not "we just felt like stopping you, buddy"

I had not a single problem with the police in Canada. If anything, they seem kind of cool. Now yes, I don't live in Canada and lots of times I am in a tourist area.

But these darn US cops, they go after teenager's smoking, law says you need to be 18 years old to smoke over here and they bust 17 year olds all the time.

I believe the Canadian police would be cooler about strip clubs too.

Oh, a great line if some cop starts pushing too hard is "I can not recall" Cops used that line when they don't want to answer a question. Nobody can prove that a person can recall something, even if it seems they do.

What the cops are legally entitled to demand of you and what they can get away with (or think they can) are two quite different things. If you want them held to the rather restrictive letter of their legal limits, you gotta be prepared to insist on your rights there on the street and all the way through the courts.

Thanks to some brave souls who do, we still have some rights to insist on.

They can insist that you give an account of yourself—a plausible explanation for your presence. If they have reasonable grounds to believe criminal activities are/were occurring behind the door you just exited, they may question you further, but you are not required to answer beyond that first account. To continue to stop you from going on your way—that would be arresting you—they have to actually say formalized stuff, like reading you your rights. If they do not, you are free to go.

However, I have always found the most extreme politeness is advisable when taking my departure from large purposeful armed men. When they don't seem to fully approve of my activies already, it seems hard to disappoint them further.

I don't believe Cops in Canada are allowed to stop you "randomly" either ... with the exception of a "R.I.D.E" checkpoint type stop. Of course they can always make shit up, so I wouldn't push too hard if one decided to pull you over and was being kind of evasuave as to what they suspecting.

It would seem to me that if you were seen leaving a premises in which they felt illegal activity was taking place it would not be a "random" stop. They can stop you and question you as part of an investigation. If they refuse to allow you to go, then its an arrest or detention and they have to tell you the reason and give you the right to call counsel.

I think oldjones has the right advice on this. Answer questions without incriminating yourself, be polite and go on your way. You can politely say, "if there's nothing else officer I'd like to be getting home" and leave it to them to up the ante and detain you, rather than being confrontational right off the bat. It may not stick, but the last thing you want is to be charged with obstruction.

Many years ago leaving Body and Soul there were several police cars in the parking lot. Those who know the setup know its narrow, a short walk from door to car.

Two or three steps past the police car and I get hailed by the constable:

Where are you coming from?
Body & Soul.
The massage parlour?
Yes.
How many people are in there?
I don't know.
How many working in there?
I don't know.
OK.

And I turned around, got in my car and left. Actually I called Body and Soul and told them there were 4 police cars in their parking lot and Sabrina apologized to me!

What you have to realize, sort of contrary to the scaredy cats and mini conspiricy theorists, police, in Ontario, have the right to stop anyone for questioning related to ongoing investigation. Do not assume, because of some sex industry association, that massage parlour related proximity automatically means they're out to get you. Any number of probabilities: a neighbour business might have had a break in or are otherwise "of interest"; numerous parking disputes are very common agenda.

However, if you frequent unlicensed establishments who may be employing illegal aliens, and you go there for chance of 'extra's', then it is a different story.

I think sometimes they-the police-just say something, like small talk, to see how somebody reacts.

Some people have no cool, if they just got some dope, did something maybe they should not have done, etc. and the police just saids "hi" to them, they shout "sorry, I just got a little bit" or something dumb.

If you are cool with them, chances are nothing will happen.

Think of the police as your friends-really. Just don't ever ever trust them.

If they ask you to identify yourself they will write up a contact card. This gets entered into their computer system and all the other toronto cops can read it. They talk to people to "shake them down" and see if they can get any dirt out of them.

Make sure you don't drink any alchohol in the massage place as that is one of their favorite charges - no liquor license...
