I was reading the newspaper online and found this ad. Be careful late at night boys.


Five people have been arrested in connection to a robbery at a North York massage parlour early this morning.

Five men entered the Sunshine Spa on Finch Ave. W., near Keele St., just before 3 a.m.

The suspects robbed customers and assaulted the manager.

The manager did not receive any serious injuries, but was taken to the hospital, police said.

The suspects escaped out the back door with the stolen goods, including jewellery.

After a witness notified police about suspicious activity in a nearby field, officers set up a perimeter, then found and arrested the suspects.

Charges have not yet been laid, police said, but the suspects could face robbery and assault-related charges.

I don't think I would visit this place on a weekday at 3 AM. Seeing they are located @ Keele & Finch area..

This spa has surveillance cameras everywhere!

If you were robbed of your cash and other items, would you stick around and give the cops your personal info seeing that you were at a MP at 3 AM?

Just imagine yourself lying their in the buff, close to your finish and a few guys walk in on with weapons in hand. How fast do you think you would lose your mojo?

I never bring anything in with me except cash. No wallet, no id, no car keys, no cell phone. Mostly because I'm afraid I will forget it when I leave.

Interesting. In June 2006 the same place was hit about 2:30 a.m. by three black guys. Popular spot to rob in the wee hours.

Interesting also is the fact that this place has a TORONTO body rub license, which means they are supposed to close by 1:00 a.m.

It's too bad, I've visited this place a few times. Now some of the girls may leave. However, If you wanted to rob a place, a MP would be a good idea, you can easily collect a large sum of money. I sure hope Korean Anna wasn't working during that time, she usually only works during the day. I also noticed their website is down.

Body Rubs are supposed to close at 9pm according to Bylaw....it was changed last year, perhaps late '07 even.

I think u may have your facts wrong. I remember plats being forced to close at 9:00 back in 2006 when the new bylaw came into place. It was successfully challenged by a group of owners a while thereafter. Don't know what the time is

Well I have had a bunch of pm's saying both 1am and 9pm. From the list of bylaws I picked up a few weeks ago from the Licensing Bureau, its 9pm...but maybe they havent updated their stuff. If Im wrong, my appologies...but I know a few that close at 9pm to avoid ticketting. hmmm...anyone with some updated info??? curious minds want to know!

Pure speculation but perhaps certain spas got a legal injunction against the bylaw, and neither side has bothered fighting it since

The laws state 9pm since 2007 but it has been in and out of courts since without being truly finalized, depending on the area of town the bylaws seem to be a little more strict. So although the laws say 9pm its not written in stone b/c the case has not been closed and the massage parlors are fighting to stay til 1am

A robbery like this and with all the media coverage is just going to create more copy-cat thieves. They'll see the benefits of a MP and start looking at higher end spas.

All cash, open late, usually all female staff, customers are vulnerable while lying on the table,...

Even the thieves are hurting during this recession!

No, Holistics are supposed to close at 9:00 p.m. Last year the body rub law was updated to allow them to stay open to 1:00 a.m. You gotta trust me on this one - I've spent time with the lawyers going over those bylaws.

i visit this place every few often, but i may rethink my visits now. Hope this robbery does not attract extra LE attention leading to unwanted investigations. Ive talked with the owner a few times of this place. Very nice asian guy, wish him a fast recovery.

Well, this spa has no limits... could just imagine what the robbers walked in on!!! : P

I'm sure the mp owner will thinking of hiring security in the future. I feel bad for the women though the owner could have used better judgement!
