Is anyone here certified in the Feldenkrais Method?

Has anyone attended any of the AMT classes? I am currently attending a weekly hour AMT class. As I was thinking about putting together information for a website for my business, I was thinking of my vision - what I want to be doing with MT (I've been doing this for 1 year now) I realized that I am very interested in bodywork that involves movement and started looking up information about it. I found a class that started that same week and signed up. I had no idea what to expect and the work is very different from anything I've done before. I'm really enjoying it and enjoying the changes in my body each week. It is so very interesting!

Not certified---yet! I've read several of Moshe Feldenkrais' books and they are really interesting. A Feldenkrais center recently opened up here and I'm planning on attaining my certification hopefully to start in 2010. Just about all my pain issue clients come in with are created and perpetuated because they don't have good awareness of their body and how utilize their body's movements to its fullest potential. I think movement is so important as part of recovering from injuries and preventing further injury and one of my goals in massage is to head towards a direction that combine massage therapy with movement & postural therapy.

Congratulations on considering going for the certification! I purchased all of the books in order to get ready for the curriculum. I was hoping to start in 2010, but will have to wait until next time (3 years, I believe). I hope you both will add your experiences along the way to this thread!

I believe the FELDENKRAIS Training for Teachers is in San Francisco - Basel, Switzerland - Torino, Italia (Italiano) - Chicago & Houston this time. So, possibly there are some more people from our forum in other cities who will be interested. That's what I think, that this is one way to have long lasting change happen for people. and they are active in attaining that change. I'm sort of testing... for me, I get chiropractic sessions and feel that change happens in my body, but it doesn't seem to stay. I go back out of alignment more quickly than I'd like. I also just attended a workshop yesterday with Stew Wild on postural assessment which is part of the picture.

I did hear a rumor that there would be a training starting in Boston next year, but does the training take 4 years? I'm already old and have just started massage therapy, so to spend another 4 years... I'm not sure.

First I suggest that you take the 20 mins. tho zoom through the site. It will give you a lot of information in a small amount of time. The nice thing about the Feldenkrais people that I've met and had communication with, is that thay are generally helpful. If you can't find something (or are interested in finding more info about Boston), I suggest contacting MaryBeth (from that site), she's always been an easy person to talk to and quite knowledgeable.

In the Houston case, it is a 3 year course. I'm no spring chicken either, but I believe the work is worth it. It is 3 - three week stints / year. So, you learn and then start to apply, etc. ---> take the next course ---> start to apply again, etc. I think each group does their training differently, so you may find something else that works for your schedule. A number of people travel to learn this work, so I think that is why they make it into the three week programs. Just my supposition.

There isn't a lot of information out yet, but there will be a Feldenekrais Teacher Training in New England this year. Larry Goldfarb will be the educational director for it. It starts in October. I'm going to send for more information.
