Head Massage Questions Possibly Indian?

Hello All!
I'm taking a course on acupressure from SNHS, and one lesson is on head massage. There is no mention as to it being Indian Head Massage, but I see if frequently referred to on this and other forum, and they do offer a course in it.

The lesson is very brief, as doesn't cover a lot information, and leaves many things untouched. I have some questions, and would appriciate any help that can be offered? Also, any suggestions on books, but I"m in the US, and can't order everything.


One of the questions is, which part of the scalp would be of most in the treatment of skin problems?
Another question is in what circumstances would you consider using scalp acupressure and a first means of treatment? And when should you not perform scalp massage.
Also Can you explain why people with sinusitis might also experience a toothache?
None of this is covered in the material, as it just shows that the spine is the hairline and a few zones above the ear.
Any help would be appriciated.

I will help you as best I can - I have done the SNHS Acupressure course as well, so will tell you the answers that I put. The recommended book and video for the course that is on the SNHS website is really good as well - which I have and you should be able to get it from Amazon in America - as that is where I purchased mine from.

The scalp acupressure is different to indian head massage. The scalp acupressure is meant to be a microsystem of the body - as is reflexology and also auriculotherapy and so works on the same basis that different points on the head represent parts of the body and help various problems. The points are all on the meridan lines as well.

In answer to your questions:

The heart and lungs zone on the scalp is what is used for skin conditions. This point is found about 3 points above the ear. YOu will see a picture in your notes of where the heart and lungs zone is.

The circumstances that you would use scalp massage is as an alternative to another microsystem and also it is extremely more beneficial for people suffering from headaches and neck pains and problems, also eye strain, as you are working on this area.

When should you not perform scalp acupressure, well these points will be the same as for any acupressure massage and these are in lesson 1 - a few of them are when there is an infection due to stimulating the blood flow and stopping the white blood cells from fighting infections, when a person is pregnant due to increasing blood flow and blood pressure, if there is a history of cancer, and also if there are unidentified lumps on the head - or a head injury. There are also a few more there with the explanations.

With regard the toothache and sinusitis - I can't remember what I put for this, but think it is probably due to the sinuses being above the teeth, I know i have had sinusitus and had toothache as well.

SNHS is the School of Natural Health Sciences and they do quite a few home study courses. The acupressure one isn't an indepth one - it sort of just gives you an insight into it. However you can practice after doing the course. I tend to include mine within my other therapies rather than a treatment itself.
