Its a 2 way concept, and it all boils down to which one wants it most. If the BG is desperate for baht, the price will be low. If the BG isn't too bothered about going with a punter then the price will be high.

The only strange exception to 'normal' economics came into force after the tsunami -

I know the point you are making Paul - it is 'cheap' to try and hammer down the price of sex, but if you feel you are paying over the odds then it seems as if they are ripping you off - no matter what it is you buy.

I wouldnt pay 3000 baht LT. If all the girls stick at that price, then I either have to pay it or do without......

my example is:if a bg quotes 1500, and i counter 1000, im pretty happy i got the going rate.
if a tout quotes me 800baht for a towel and i negotiate for 400baht, i walk away not really knowing if i paid too high

Why scam the girls? They are lovely!! I love them to bits!! I know a lot of the BM's quote 1000 Baht LT which is great and you still get the Blokes who say "Don't give them anymore!! You are pushing the prices up!" OK!! I give the girls what I think they deserve and it is invariably a little bit more than a thousand! Up to me! OK? My money.

I'd love 5 minutes with the rip-off merchants as mentioned and agree with Faulty here and say - What kind of a holiday would you possibly have trying to keep your head up high on and around Bangla knowing that the finger is being pointed at you? China is worse. I was told if the guy doesn't leave mad or crying, you paid too much. I remember buying 2 watches where the guy started at 200 yuan each and I ended paying 25 yuan for both together.

I love bartering but you have to keep it fun. No sense getting upset and everyone should be happy closing a deal.

Same Same with BG's. Negotiate if you want but everyone should leave happy. If you can get her to go with you for 100 bht and everyone's happy, good for you. If you want to give her more, buy her gold, a house in the country a motorbike do it nobody's business but yours.

But taking advaneforum.xxxe of someones lack of knowledge and screwing them over like this guy did is just wrong.

Its all business....the BG's are just as cunning as the punters....If your hammering out a deal with one and you push the price to low..she can backoff and move to the next punter(plenty to go around)...if she is good and has a bit of experiance she will be able to sweet talk her way into a nice deal(power of the p#ssY)....
Think of it like this...your running a market stall trying to flog off your product and during this negotiation the buyer is in power most of the way...now you know he wants to buy something but you need to grab his attention and make out as if yourthings better than what he can get next door...you do this and the sales is done...if no sale than learn from previous buyer and move on...
Said this....I have never payed less than 1500 BAHT ....and most times more when you include drinks and food...but its all worth it...EVEN THOUGH MY NEGOTIATION SKILLS HAVE EVAPORATED WITH THE ALCOHOL CONSUMED THAT NIGHT.

This story was told to me while I was negotiating a short time but it was not for that night. I prefer to drink and flirt with the girls in the evenings and enjoy them carnally in the afternoons. When I told the BG that I would require her for about 2pm the following day she said she could not because her boyfriend was arriving at 10am and she was meeting him at the airport.

I was happy to leave it when she suggested that she could come to my hotel at 8am and leave for the airport at 9am. I slowed to a canter as the ride ended and we dismounted for a rest.

I tried to talk about the weather but she was clock watching and wanted to get going for the second ride as soon as I could, so we saddled up again and Hi-Ho Silver away! This time around she was very concerned about how tired her pony was going to look after this second ride and complained if I so much as broke into a trot. I accepted her concerns and let her end the ride by leading my stallion by hand.

She showered inspected herself thoroughly in the rooms vanity mirror and set of to meet her boyfriend. I often wonder if the 16 Baht rip off was actually Karmic punishment for treating her boyfriends with such disrespect and that the Italian was actually a tool of the Gods.
