Since then I follow the 6 golden rules ...
1 DNT carry excessive cash
2 carry only your mongering device and ensure all family contacts are either deleted or not saved as wife, honey, dad etc
3 don't take too much of booze or toke.. be well under your threshold you can truly enjoy the experience
4 carry condoms soaps etc
5 no valuables except cash and mobile device.
6 if possible travel by public transport avoid own vehicle
7 don't take undue risk if you feel endangered just flee, and most importantly save your bucks if you don't like the indie or in doubt

i have maintained a policy... i normally go only for indies with their place. meaning private places...
It ensures some safety and also reduces the LE risk ... what i do with whom inside the house ( his or her) is not concern of LE.
Avoid lodges that have notorious reputation as they get busted every now and then. Prevention is better.

Hence prostitution itself is not an offence under law, but soliciting, brothels, madams and pimps are illegal under The ITPA (Immoral Traffic Prevention Act of 1956).
