Masseuse double duties

Recently, I treated one of my crew to a holidays lunch, I usually just let them pick the location and they picked this off-the-beaten-path little Chinese place. Walked in with the gang and lo and behold, our waitress for the day looked somewhat familiar; then I saw the second waitress, who looks like the older sister and I imagined her without clothes on, bingo, the older one worked as a masseuse at this westend MP; also certain, she showed the same cold distant look when she was "massaging" or serving food. If she recognized me, she did not show it. This is truly a small city, I try to never offend anyone.

Ive been told by a few workers that it has been a poor year for them and very slow. Might be economy, or saturation of the marketplace.

It's an odd massage market right now. Tons of supply and less demand, and yet prices are not reflecting this at all. Those in the business don't think they'll increase demand if they reduce the prices at all, so they earn a lot less thanks to a greatly reduced amount of busniness.

This is why there is a proliferation of the semi-legit places. Without the extras, these gals would all be unemployed

Yep, it definitely seems like it's moving towards more of a buyers market. I'm not going to pay 80 bucks for a mediocre massage anymore, and will only give my repeat business to the skilled ladies.

Hopefully our prices will start to move lower and more in line with Montreal, Toronto, etc prices

That explains a lot of some of the extra extras some of us have been getting with certain girls . Some seem to have opened up the menu for a few of us. I tip extremely well for a woman that will . As a business owner I understand that when faced with a slow down and competition is vast , you have to do what it takes to keep the business coming in the door. The ones that offer mediocre service for exaggerated prices will not prosper . The ones that go into survival mode will .

I 100% agree, I took my own business into survival mode a few years back when I sense the tide turning. I started bidding on low-margin long term contracts just to hold on to people. I am old enough to have been through a downturn or two, good people is the only asset you have that let your business survive a downturn. If spa owners understand that concept, hold on to the good masseuses and your business with prosper.

To the masseuses, if you ask for outrageous prices, no one will come. If you ask for reasonable prices, people will come. If you ask for reasonable prices and provide outstanding services, people will repeat and some of us will even tip. Do not mix up mandatory pricing with tipping, if you demand it, it is not tipping. Another person and I were just talking in private about a southside place which both of us stopped visiting, the word "greedy" was used multiple time to describe the owner/operator and some of her top ladies have left. I suspect that when an owner is "greedy", both the masseuses and the customers got squeezed and the business declines.

Even when the economy was booming I'd only go to the select few that actually put effort in the massage. Now that times aren't as good I still go to the same ladies and pay/tip them the same even if they dropped their prices. There's to many that just rush thru the massage just to upsell a HE, then they just jackhammer it with a bored look on their face.

Quite honestly I go to the semi-legits for extras only and always have a “light touch” massage. I go to micros or MP’s for a sure thing, and go to actual clinics for massage or body issues. I tip service, and only once was I asked for more.

It is something that would require a delicate approach. There is a restaurant that I frequent in cowtown that has a waitress (Asian) on weekends only, that has this appearance, 35ish face, body type, shape of hands and fingers that I just know would make for an amazing masseuse. In fact, every time she hovers next to me, and she appears to do this often, I end up with a raging boner. If I were a spa owner, I would immediately give her my card. Unfortunately, I am not a spa owner. However, I am getting close to making a suggestion. Just needs to be done right, so it is not misinterpreted.

Have any of you gents help facilitate such a career change, or at least a dual career transition? And in Edmonton, do you know of any spas where you might be able to stop in with your own masseuse? And just pay the room rate to the owner.

be careful with that one..if she has not or would not be interested in doing massage any suggestion of same will be most insulting to her..maybe mention that you have a sore back but you do not know anyone in cowgary that does massage..depending on her answer you might then make the suggestion that she might be able to help you..i know how your thinking regarding this lady..just before tropic tan closed their was a mid 30s absolutely beautiful Asian lady working there...I still think about her..as she was working in a spa/tanning venue it was not inappropriate to ask if she would do massage and she took no offense , however your gal likely would not have the same reaction..hope all works out for you..m

Definitely will deal with this very delicately. Think it would be a stretch though if I said that I don't know anyone in town who gives a massage . She would either have to be naive to believe it or might think that I am a bumpkin, .

Believe it or not, I have tried that line before. Mind you, I was two bottles of wine in with my two buddies when I tried it so the liquid courage was definitely there. We were chatting up the new waitress at a lounge and I ended up telling her that I think I need a massage but I am affraid to let strangers touch me. She put her tray down and gave me a short shoulder massage, and went "there, that isn't so bad is it?". We frequent that lounge so I would never try for anything more but if your waitress is open to it, you can always ask for more.

You are on to something there. Repeats may lead to a private masseuse arrangement . A long long time ago, while checking in (quite late) at a smallish hotel in the southern US, I joked with the woman that I was tired from a long day of travel and could use a massage. She smiled and said that she had to be at the desk all night. Once I was in the room, she called the room and asked if everything was ok in the room. Then she said that she was not working the next night. . My business visit turned out to be quite ok. Once in a while, taking a chance works out very nicely.
