New disco in Patong?

Nightclubs in this town are owned by one or two people.. Unless your them you dont have much of a fair shake.. Think about who owns Dragon (ok ex club) and safari..

Otherwise have very good fire insurance..

Well i don't know how much they would be paying in rent and with the risk of making as **** out of myself i'm under the assumption that the rent would be ridiculously high. Then 300 bht beers plus no FL's.... Ummm so who is going to go to this type of place??? Without the girls they won't having the guys buying drinks in there... Might end up becoming like "Home bar" Nice bar, no girls and hence no customers... Have to completely agree with Lil and Nels. and to go back on Stevem's point... Even if they had girls, it would be interesting to see if they could survive the low season...

Will be interesting to see the outcome of this. I have a gf and dont mind the lack of FL, if they have have quality of light and sound. I dont like Tiger disco as its so packed and crowded and you can barely move inside.

New ideas is welcome and with families and couples being the biggest tourist group, it could work. But I also think the risk is high that the place will be empty, upmarket and high quality dont seems to work in Patong.

Yes, and Home Bar. Home Bar is still a very nice place but they dont have many customers. But the location isnt the best one either, same for La Baia.

Yeah home bar is tucked away down a little soi, forget the name. But if you're walking up bangla from beach rd there's no way anyone will make it to home bar... Too much temptation along the way... As for La baia i think they get the hotel traffic from time to time maybe. I've been to Home bar once (when i first arrived) there was only an elderly couple and the owner (forget his name, but remember was an aussie) and La Baia i've been to twice and both times i was the only one in there...

The manager of La Baia is also a member here, or ex manager I should say. He quit and is having a month holiday here before he go to Bangkok to work for a newly open pub on two floors close to Nana Plaza.

firstly - the one thing I do not miss about 'back home' is nightclubs that think they are high class joints. So i am gonna have a rant...

1) fvck any sort of dress code or door policy - it was so refreshing to come here and go out anywhere you like without some neanderthal telling you "jeans are allowed but yours are too blue" or "those look like trainers to me" or "shirt needs a proper collar"

2) high end joints get off on having a big queue of punters waiting to get in to their 'exclusive' establishment....fvck that.

3) Paying to get in with no drink offers (Don't mind paying to see a good DJ but not just to get in a place).

4) Queing at the bar for 20 minutes to buy an overpriced drink. The real queue in these places is in the toilets of course where it looks like it has been snowing

5) No FLs. How exactly are they going to determine this anyway? They will be there....just better dressed and more expensive and probably Russian .

6) All attitude no atmosphere. As LiL and others pointed out - up-to-date DJs playing to people who like good dance music is worth a thousand places where everyone stands around posing with their bottles of 'Crystal'.

I welcome new choices but remember too many bad things from high-calibre clubs. They were always empty a few months later when a newer more exclusive club opened down the road. Then all the pretentions were lost and they were begging to get you in handing out phtocopied flyers with free drink tokens. LOL

Very difficult to get DJ's a short term work permit.. Basically near impossible..

One reason why the club scene here cannot attract (anhd advertise) big name DJ's.. Gary Gecko has been trying it and it just fails.

the club i wanna see here is all painted black inside, low ceiling with sweat dripping off it, 30 megastrobes and a fvck off laser and a thousand goggle-eyed loons avin it!

mmmmmmmmmmmm interesting stuff

Its a pity we cant get a hold of stats about the average spend of couples and families and especially where they spend it and where they come from - a bit of customer profiling

My feel is, the single guys are the big spenders in patong and they are the driving force in the local economy dictating demand and thus the type of supply i.e. cheap cheesy discos and cheap beer bars

I suspect the majority of other groups hail from Asia (there are stats on this deffo - i have them) especially Taiwan, China, Japan, Korea etc.......... u do see some Aus families who use phuket as a sub for Bali........................but a nice meal at the hotel or round about, a few beers and a little voyeur trip is the order of the day

Its yet to be seen how Juncelyon or upmarket establishments will change the landscape of the economy in terms of changing the current customer profile. It might just be the case it will give them somewhere to go etc..........

Time will tell

If you look at say BKK (not the best example) but the beer bar crowd seems to be able to live in harmony with the big shopping malls and higher class entertainment places

maybe thats why this board is changing as well with a more family and couple and less single guy atitude etc

All one and the same LiL - the whole 2 floors above Angels, Swingers, C&D, Livng Room 2 (pool bar next to Vegas Thai Boxing Rng).

As an aside - over in Angeles at the moment and there are no farang orientated nightclubs here which is a bit dissapointing - still its busy here and USarines in Clarke base so tons of security everywhere. Still night club entrepreneurs may want to consider a decent night club for AC.
