Was there a dress code in the old Shark Club?

Can't remember but at the time I think it was perceived as more 'upmarket' with good lighting/sound etc.

Let's face it....it was one of the most popular spots in Phuket so why shouldn't this new place be if it has the same profile if not better?

I understand at the moment there is no business but I would think the owners can wait longer than just 6 months for a return on their investment?

with that sort of price for drinks , dress code, & possible entry fee (been trying to acess website & find out , but it wont open for me) it could be an expensive nite.
in this time where world in recession, & tourism down in Thailand/Patong who can afford to go ?
the place looks nice on Tonys pics,

i was looking at this guy's tour dates and he has played Rain, which is one of the biggest clubs in US, but who knows what he makes there

True, but, the points I've brought up are valid, nevertheless.

Count out foot-traffic, it's on the 3rd floor.
Prices are high.
Many people will go first time and fall foul of the dress code due to ignorance. How many will go and change, then, come back?

You still have the chicken / egg conundrum that faces all new bars.
Men come because of the women. Women come only if there are customers.

Sounds like it would be good for couples, but, how many couples are here in Phuket that couldn't give a sh1t about expensive booze prices?

Just my opinion. If the business is still there in three years with the same owners, I'll admit I was wrong.

Yep this is by Bed Supper Club, one of the most famous Bangkok bars.

I will be going this Wednesday night. It's Fashion Week and they will be having a bit of a party that night.... hopefully lots of stunners will be in.

I am also doubtful it will work here in Phuket as most people are happy to sit in shabby bars listening to crap music. I just don't think there is enough people on the island that are interested in a club like this.

Hopefully it will be around for quite sometime. Bed Supper Club has had some great DJ's on such as Miguel Migs, Rasmus Faber, Joey Negro, Kenny Dope etc and it would be great to have them here in Phuket.

Dress code is not an issue for me, never been one for flip flops on a night out anyway!

The proper opening night is July 17th but I wont be going, Stereo Lab have a Hed Kandi night.That will be a great night! Hed Kandi are doing the Asian Tour.

You can buy a Hed Kandi CD and know without even listening to it first that it will be good.

Yes, we know Phuket House Mafia and some of those guys will be playing for us on a regular basis.

Friday night is Ultra-SOUND which is harder house music.

For the next 2-3 months, I'm bringing down Bed DJs every day to get some great tunes playing.

The club looks really cool, just think its 4-5 years too early.

Why some 'old hands' will doom the place before it starts I don't understand.

Some variety/competition/higher standards is very welcome for Phuket imo.

Just because the last 'upmarket' places are not doing well doesn't mean that a new modern venue is not needed or viable.

Most of those places are probably getting fundamentals wrong eg not getting the girls into the club for starters etc etc as already mentioned by others.

The GM Dave from his response seems aware of these factors.

Again........Shark proved there is a major market for a well run club

Well it was 6 or 7 years ago and probably had a dress code to start.

Location? Isn't it in Jungceylon.........just over the road?

Elevator..........never had an impact in stopping or encouraging people into a club imo.

Drinks at half price? Well all in time I would think

I have heard so many times how people miss Shark and what a shame it closed.What looks like a better and more modern place opens and people don't think it will work..............I'm not so sure about that.

This is what I mentioned earlier. The organizers have to help themselves by not creating their own bad press. This is light compared to what is in the Thai press. As someone that could be buying tickets...not sure what I would be buying for anylonger. What if I had bought already, would I get a refund?

I'm a disappointed they botched this. Disappointed the film festival was cancel due to the cancel ASEAN meeting. It is all good stuff and adds dept to living/visiting Phuket.

yep...in fact it needs to get the girls AND the punters from Hollywood or it will be closing its doors very early...there is only really enough punters in town at this timew of the year to make a real go of ONE nightclub in town...Bangkok it ain't!

Don't think they'll ever rob Hollywoods punters...... price, music, reputation and most of all location will ensure that Hollywood remains Patongs #1 club for the forseeable future IMO
