It all comes down to where you're going.
You're going for the local civilians? Dress to impress but don't go to Revu.
Another thing is no matter how you dress, we locals can tell you're a tourist regardless of what you wear.
Be yourself and just wear the clothes you usually wear, you'll be OK.

Dress how you like in TJ, me I dress casually as really you don't have to dress up to impress the putas.,because they are more worried how they are going to impress you; as there is lots of competition for your American dollar from younger prettier girls.

If your married you might want to keep your 'wedding ring' on. It's turns on many of the chicas that they are doing another women's husband, and it's a great conversation, when she'll ask, 'if you are married what are you doing HERE?' However a few putas will think you're scum for cheating on your wife, but I think the majority will have more respect for you, and they feel safer with a married man, knowing if he 'CHEATS' he'll probably wear a condom, and that he is not a total LOSER, because at least he has a women at HOME.

I usually wear fairly new jeans and a nice shirt, not a real good one. Another thing, just bring an ID and the cash you want to spend. Carry it in a safe place and you might want to spread out the cash in several different pockets, I don’t use my back pockets. No jewelry, except a cheap watch.

I have never had a problem yet in TJ but I try to be prepared for one.

Chicas are interested in money above all else, so be sure to bring some! They do, as noted above, perfer somebody with good hygiene...so look and smell presentable.

Wearing expensive clothes, watches, rings, etc. increase your odds of being mugged. But mugging isn't a major problem as long as you use common sense and avoid high risk areas. (Such as Articulo 123 and Revolucion near Purple Rain.)

I always advise people not to bring things they can't aford to lose. So, for example, if you're married I'd suggest finding a safe place to leave your wedding ring before crossing the border. I also advise people to avoid high risk behaviour, like stubbling around drink and walking back to the border at night.

Hygiene is far more important than your clothes. Shower, shave, brush your teeth, and cut your nails. Try not to wear knee high white sox, and shorts, as the chicas do have geek meters.

Sup fellas, I’m planning on taking a trip down to TJ and I need a couple of questions answered. I’ve read most of the posts here so I know what to expect. However, something no one mention is the type of clothing to wear out there. Is it a bad idea to wear nice clothes or is it better to blend in the crowd and look more, native. The reason I ask is because I don’t want to risk getting mugged or worse. When you guys go out there do you wear watches and rings? Do the females get more attracted to you if you look more clean cut or do they treat you the same regardless? Any answers to my question are much appreciated, thanks again guys.
