Like independent contractors, there are a few who can charge more because they are so much better.
As a rule you will find that for a certain project there is a going rate, even if it is not published enywhere.
I bid on a lot of jobs and believe I can command a premium for what I offer.
Reality is that I either have to pick and choose or play the game.
Sometimes I do get a sucker that will pay more than even I expected.
In summary, you are right, they are just like independent contractors.

and to Mr OM....when you have been on this board for 3-4 years and 5000 posts you might get a little tired of the same old questions day in day out from guys who can't be bothered to do a search or who insist on answers to their every little whim....despite it being asked and answered thousands of times before...the board is a different place for different people....I don't want my dirty washing dried out in the general forum but if someone is asking a question and getting no answers I'll chime in and help....but mostly I'm in here for a conversation with friends whom I've met in here and in person in LOS over many years....its valid to be a newbie or an oldie or anything in between..the board is your own oyster...how you behave is how you will be treated!

However it has in a few short years gone from 1000 baht being considered very generous.. To 1500 as generous to 2000 - 2500 being generous.. I would say what 4 years in that scale.. Now with requests in the 3k plus range how long until the 2500 doubles to 5000 ??

If 5000 becomes the normal price a top end girl wants to value herself at and pitch only to the fresh off the plane tourist type.. And guys have to value choose in the lower divisions.. Will that change the arrivals (some may argue it already is.. All my more hardcore mongering mates are going to PI for thier fun)..

I 've done it in my poor days and they stayed sometimes for a few days break...for tv & chow.....some I had to push out the door....of course I was only in my 50's then.....but if your on a tight $$$ ....BTW, I' m still not rich, but happy is good !

Bit off the mark there Older man. 300-500 generally at the bars in the Sois off Bangla yes...the ones that are 500 some of them drop to 300 after midnight or 1am. Gogo bars generally 500 or 600baht. Many of the bars under Tiger the dancers' barfines are 1000baht! and non-negotiable. Many bars away from Bangla like in Soi Moodie; Soi Seapearl; Nanai Road barfine is 200baht.

Freelancers on the street or in nightclubs free off course but "coyote" dancers in places like Taipan don't appear barfinable...I've tried enough times and not got anywhere...you have to wait till it closes or arrange to meet them daytime.

well, prices are always different from time to time, same girl charges different depending on ur age, look, if ur fat or muscular, ugly or handsome, I usually pay the fine and then go out partying with the girl, when morning comes and she wakes up, I insist on paying, but they dont want my money, just to c me again!! if u look like Leif Loket Olsson all the money in the world would not get u the girls I get for free..... but my day will come, when I get old, fat and ugly, then I need more money I guess!!

JUst remember non-payers or abusive customers, soon get a reputation from the girls.
