Pet Massage

i have has dome trainging in pet massage and im now taking up a part time job at a very high end pet day spa. but im not shure how to really convince why people should get their pets massaged since they are allready spending fourty dollars on grooming. How much should i charge it is a specilaty massage so im thinking a little more than just a basic human swedish. i only do 15 and 30 min sessions. what else do i need to do? ???

Natalie, that's a great service! Companion animals give us unconditional love, and massage is one of the most valuable ways of returning it. There are many health benefits to your work, as well.

Did the school give you any idea of what to charge? If its a high end spa, it shouldn't be too hard to work out. I would think of starting at a dollar a minute, as any massage therapist, but your employer may give you feedback to charge more.

I work on my dog at times too.  Sometimes when he chases a squirrel up a tree, he'll slip and fall, cause he's a little clumsy, and when he gets up, his back leg will act like it hurts.  So I do a little massage, press some points that seem like they might be TrPs, and soon he's off and running again.  I think he knows what is going on.  mk

I massage my cats neck and back.  She loves it!  Pet massage is starting to make its way out to the public more and more.  I saw Martha Stewert do a segment on it.  She had her two dogs on the show and they talked about how good it was for your pets.  I love animals.  I wish I had known about it before.  I dont think they have any schools that offer it in Georgia.    God knows you wont get as many hassles with a license, or pet perverts!  Just kidding!  ;D

I know heard that you may need a vets approval, or you have to work with a vet.  I'm not sure if its true or not.

:Yes, I heard that too and to me that's ridiculous!!!  One needs to know with what pressure to administer massage and how to work the muscles and soft tissue and all...................BUT to perform human massage I understand the need for licensure and all.  Its to seperate the serious, moral therapists from the potentially opposite......but for animal massage.......Come On!!!

pet massage is a wonderful thing to do for animals..i also massage my two cats and they love it..usually my cat hates his paws touched but if i start the massage on his neck and back a bit and then gently move down to his litte paws he lets me and even seems to enjoy it..i agree, check around but a dollar a min. seems okay to me..
