For new chums, it also depends upon where you choose to drink; eg all bar beer prices (drinks, LDs, BFs, etc) are higher in the Tiger bars than, for example, Soi Croc bars. Shop around. I, for one, do not think B1000 LT is kee niaow and I have never paid more (and no, I'm not a young, fit, woodburner - but of course, I am hansum man!) I suggest you also try straying away from Bangla - try, for eg, the OTOP bars (Ratuthit, opposite Hard Rock).

Don't take a knock back of a B1k LT offer too hard - move on and try elsewhere. Bear in mind that the unskilled wage in Phuket is around B7k per month, so B1k plus half the LDs and half the BF is not a bad day's wages by any measure, even if you were the only one who happened to buy her drinks on the day.

As to the suggestion that the OP is being mistaken as a Thai, the Thais (just like most of us) can tell the considerable differences in appearance between a Thai and a Japanese (who many Thais think are richer than farang, and charge accordingly).

E: I should add that many BGs working bars catering to farang won't go with Thai blokes for various reasons (the way they are treated, not getting paid, etc). They will quote high prices to Thais who 'try it on' in farang-catering bars for these reasons. But they would know you are not Thai by both appearance and, of course, your speaking to them. Thais tend to frequent Thai only places, particularly karaoke bars, where the blokes chip in to buy bottles of Thai whisky and coke (cheapy prices). (One of the reasons you rarely see Thai blokes in farang-catering bars.)
