You mentioned the Seapearl. What about the Salathai Hotel across the street? How bad does it look. I've stayed there and made friends with the staff, but can't get any info on it.

The girl I was breakfasting with on the beachfront when the wave hit let me stay at her apartment for the first night until I found a new (dry) hotel. She didn't ask for anything but I basically emptied my wallet before we said goodbye and she left for Phuket Town and then home (NE).

The hotel staff stayed on unpaid (the managers disappeared for 36 hours) to guard the hotel and our belongings despite not knowing if they would have a job in future there. Another wallet full - they really did their best under the circumstances.

Now that Bangla is almost completely open again, you can't help but wonder at their resilience and tenacity, it's a pity the Western Media is painting such an overall black picture of the situation that will keep tourists away from less affected areas like this for months if not years. Yes, many areas are devastated, but Patong is carrying on regardles and deserves tourist support.

Im absolutelu sure the tourist industry will rapidly bounce back in western thailand...As bad as this sounds,..already eastern thailand tourism (samui/pattaya) is benefitting from the catastrophe in the west coastal regions.

If board members want to support people by visiting the affected regions then why not take you holiday/vacation in sri lanka and indonesia where your 'help/money' is needed far more. no:

My answer is quite simple, chukky. I want to go back to LOS because I love this place I have visited 4 times (sson 5) and because I have many friends in Phuket, so I would like to see them.
But everybody can also make a donation to international organisations that operate everywhere in Asia.

Without offending you, don't you think it is normal to want to be closer to people you know, you like and maybe you love in these circumstances?

Why dont you just piss off instead of being sarcastic here? As domi says, we love Thailand, and have different relations to people there. So of course we care about the friends we have, thais or farangs with business! If you have problem with that, piss off. Who do you think you are? Mr Moral himself? You dont know a fukcing shit about what other BM`s do down there. Some may sit in bars, some may do some voulantary work.. But everyone down there, and the guys home, support and have their symphatys with the thai people. How we then support them is up to each and every one..
I have done a donation to the Red Cross here in Sweden, and the money goes to Sri Lanka. I wanted to give my money to Thailand, but the Red Cross thinks that they need it more to Sri Lanka, and i dont mind. I do my thing, and i dont judge what other people do. I know we all give all the help we can. If it then is money, or just a message to someone to cheer them up, who cares?
So piss off or shut up!

The norwegian media reports that ALL norwegian survivors commend the thai people for their unselfish aid and support in this situation. This has also been mentioned by the government in several pressconferences. The government here speaks of new bonds beeing forged between Norway and Thailand because of this.

I know that Noi is allright she was in Bangkok when the tsunami hit. I don't know about the rest of the staff.
