Being a Phuket newbie I decided to check out the Roxy gogo. I thought I was being smart by dodging around the touts for the russian place... Went into Roxy and ordered a tiger beer off the menu without noticing the price. When I got the beer and the check..."800 baht?!" Seriously? The waitress insisted I had to pay since the price was right on the menu I ordered off of. I gave her a nasty look, paid, and left. Maybe an amateur move, but I didn't know what would happen if I tried to leave without paying.

Is this because a tout ran up the stairs ahead of me? Or was I just wearing a "sucker" sign on my back? Place needs a warning label.

Went to the Devil's Playground to cool off. Incidentally DP seems to be the only gogo I can find here worth visiting. I guess I should get the hang of the bar beers (never been my thing). All the agressive grabbing on soi eric just chases me out of there though. Maybe I'd be safer on soi crocadile...

Sounds fishy to me. I thought their beers were ฿130 or ฿140. Did you look at the menu and see the ฿800 listed there?

I don't go there, but know some of the people involved there. If I was you, I'd go back and ask to see a farang manager and explain what happened. Maybe the waitress was pocketing the money, in which case the managers would want to know.

Heh, yeah the menu really did have 800 and 900 for the beers - not sure about other drinks. Could be it was a bogus menu, but I'd rather not waste any more energy on the place.

From now on I'll be sure to check the prices up front. Not the most expensive lesson I've had in Thailand...

Roxy also just got a slating on Thaivisa for charging 250 baht for beers during their shows..

The OP obviously got touted somehow but the beer price is probably one of the higher prices and hence tout plus expensive beer = prices charged. 16 to 18 quid a small bottle, getting close to clip joint pricing.

I find it hard to believe the managers would allow this to happen. Either overpricing or tout ripoffs.

You got ripped off blind.No two ways about it.You will pay more if bought in by a tout.The most I have seen is 500 bt.
You were right to pay up, but after that you should have immediatly sort out the tourist police,{sometimes difficult to find] They would have escorted you back there and got a place and got a please explain. The Tp would have given them a hard time and any punters in there would see it.
Afterwards you should tell everyone you meet of your experience there.
Even if you didnt get any money back there is a certain satisfaction in not allowing them to get away scott free.

As a by the bye I have seen the exact situation years ago, the TP made the venue refund the excess charge.

Is Jeff and the other owners still involved with Roxy? Shame if they have decided to go down this path rather than just dealing with the quality issue and attracting customers (Raw's SW way.) Even RH has improved lately.

Roxy seems to be all the old Body nude girls now - even the terrible whistle/dart show!

RH had a lot of nice girls and a lot of silicon in there too.

Suzies is still the best but i cba when its packed (and it has been lately - high season seems to be here at Suzies at least).

I was pretty impressed by The Devil's on the couple of occasions I was in there...that and Suzies' are the only show for me...although we have had fun as a group a few times in the late afternoon in RH when the pesterer (gee) is in town

I been in Roxy a few times, didn't pay more than 200B for more than a beer or whatever its stated on the menu.. No problems there or other AGG..

The only place I almost got ripped off is SECRET, the place that everyone should avoid going.. That place simply SUCKS.. 1st time there, beer was 150b.. 2 months later, I went in.. It was 500B.. My friend was quoted 800b!! Left the place immediately, the manager came and stopped us from leaving and asked us how much we want.. I quoted 200B.. She said OK.. I still left the place.. Hahaha.. No. 1 on my BLACKLIST now..

Went to Roxy just after it opened as I knew the Thai manager and beers were 90b, staff drinks 120b and I think the dancing girl drink might have been a touch more.
It was a great place to hang out and a lot of friends, Thai and farang went there. Very stylish, no shows.
We never went back after the manager left.
But if that's the direction they started heading it explains why it CLOSED down recently.

Interesting. Just reading the date of OP and it seems that after charging 800b for a drink, the lifespan of the place was less than 2 weeks.
Maybe you were the only one who kept it open.5555
