Should members with no posts be banned?

I thnk members who have posted no reviews over an extended period of time should be banned. After all, this is a review board.

Quaqgitty for example has 117 posts since joining in Dec/07 and has posted only one review (his first post) which was an useless shill. All his other posts are comments or criticisms on other members' reviews. This is not contribution and paying back to the board.

I would say people who have not made contributions and paid back to the community with reviews of SPs or MPAs should not be allowed to have free lunches any more.

Some of the best PM's I've received are from guys with a low (or zero) post count.

Many people can't be bothered with flame wars after sharing their thoughts on a public board.

The only time I get really annoyed is when they take information and tell the MPA "INDN_LOVER said this..."

Would Bebe think differently if he was banned permanently and had to start again under an assumed handle? That is a question that he would have to answer himself.

I find that some of the members with zero posts have been banned before, many in a wrong fashion, that did in fact have posting histories and feel that posting for a site that did them wrong in the first place is wrong ... I side with them because it is their choice.

However, since I don't know many of them and can't verify who most of them are I don't divulge information that could potentially harm someone else. If they have been on this board long enough they obviously realize that PMing another member will probably get them next to nothing worthwhile, but they continue as such.

What I do take exception to, and what is even worse than the zero post members are those members who do have a posting history then stop after some time, give the tidbit here and there, but use PMs to trade info from one member to another and it is none of their own personal info. These guys PM more than post and if you talk with other members you figure who they are. I even had one guy who traded info with me that I had already told another member whom I trusted it with.

Since I am basically being called out in this thread, I'll give my 2 cents.

I was going to visit Toronto last summer, but plans changed and I didn't get a chance to go. I joined so I can gain access to all the forums. I wanted to do some research before I went so I don't get involved in B&S type stuff, after all, I don't do this as often as most and want a good experience.

As of now, I am planning on making another trip to Toronto (possible go to Montreal also). I log on from time to time to see what's going on, stay current. I would post, but really, what would I post about? I have no problem posting a review once I see someone, but its hard to get involved with topics when you really have nothing useful to say.

Right now, I am learning from everyone, hoping to "officially" join this summer.

Here too are my two cents. And if I seem to be stating the obvious, I'll apologize upfront.

Firstly, members don't pay fee to join. This board is primarily sustained by advertising dollars. To command advertising dollars, a site needs traffic. The more the better. As lowly as lurkers are (me including) in the estimation of some frequent posters, they are essentail for the longevity of this board.

Secondly, the vitality of review boards such as this doesn't emanate from reviews alone. It comes from the richness of its chatters. I have been to other boards that seem to have better structure of reviews and organization of its archives for seraches. But after a while, I felt bored and stopped visiting because the conversations were meager and uninteresting. Conversely, I love to hang out here. It's like a cyber club full of interesting characters and conversations. Its texture is rich and vibrant due to the breadth of participations of a wide range of people who post responses like on this thread. Like any eco-system, every composition is vital to the continued well being of the whole. Take one component out, the entire system might just collapse.

Thirdly, I do feel passing guilt for not posting any reviews. But my appitite is small. There'll never be occasions for me to TOFTT. But I love this club. I hope it'll thrive and be around for a long time. So, I have often wonder why doesn't this board provide avenue where members like me can make cash contributions to help the upkeep of this site? A lot of free-ware sites do this. They outsource the payment administration to a third party provider such as PayPal or Element 5. So, the whole process is completely voluntary, easy and anonymous. There dosen't seem to be any downside to this feature. Is there?
