Sometimes I wonder if all the stories of Asia and Thai being so full of aids in heterosexual girls is totally true. What makes me wonder is I have been going to Thai on and off since 94 and if you go to the regular places each time you get to know some of the faces, even if you don’t take them and I continue to see the same faces looking in the same level of health each year. If it is so prevalent in Thai I would think that each time you go back some of the regular girls may be not still be alive or would look to ill to work. I do not know, is this a rumour spread by the do gooders to spoil our fun. And from reading what has been said here there are a few that either regularly go bare back or continue when the dunlop breaks. So why aren’t heaps of bm testing positive?
As TT said it was the girl that got the shitty end of the deal.
Either way it is a big gamble, but I do like those juices coming down the shaft.
Guess it is up to the individual.

An@l sex is definately a much much higher risk.. I often hear that LB's have higher ratio's of infected also but a lot of that could be the simple discrimition / attitude of many towards LB's, until I saw some valid studies or data I would not want to say if thats true (but IMHO likely)...

Does any one know the risks associated with dining on the Y bone steak. I think that the mucus membrane, in your mouth, absorbs things into the blood stream pretty quick. That is why people with heart conditions such as angina (could be wrong about the exact condition though) place the tablets under their tongues?
So if you do like to have a nibble down there is that any more risky than going bareback?
Any opinions or known data on this please?

I think you may have missed my point (my error in using term below), so here goes.
My main point: your buddy could have gone 8 to 10 years shagging someone who was HIV positive because she did not show signs of the disease. A person can go that long without having symptoms. The inbcubation period to create/detect antibodies is about 10 weeks. You were correct. I used the term "incubation" incorrectly. My apology for that. I meant to write..."symptomatic". Still, why make it seem any harder to contract the disease? Any sane person would use a condom every time. Do you agree? Where am I not misinformed? That wearing a condom reduces the risk GREATLY.

P.S. I edited my post for this reason: To emphasize my point; it pays to be safe, and use a condom every time.

I cant be bothered to argue but thats not what you said.. You said this guy has the next 8 - 10 years of his life living in fear that he may have caught the disease and had no way to check..

Anyway of course using condoms cuts down the risk but you know what, some of the best things in life are risky.. I use condoms (or try to) and I get tested ever 3 - 6 months in case of the odd indescretion but I also cant understand people who wont even have sex while wearing a condom !!!

In my life I have skydived, flown hang and paragliders, done motorsport, rode fast bikes and driven cars like an idiot, etc.. All of these things carries inherant risk, they were all great things to do, screwing hot young women caries risk, its also a great thing to do.. I eat high colesterol food and blue cheese, I drink too much, I dont do what doctors tell me to do..

Is life so precious that you can give up living before you die ??

@the mook... The longest 'incubation period' before HIV antibodies are found and detectable by tests is approx 3 months, usually 4 - 6 weeks.. I suspect you are confusing the classification of AIDS from HIV which really is just a category of how far the immune system has broken down and how high the viral load has got (CD4 below 200 IIRC)..

All that Sorcerer posyed were FACTS about the situation and common misconceptions (such as your own it seems).

As someone who is planning his first trip to phuket in april, I can honestly say that the AIDS issue is something that I am seriously worried by to the extent that it puts me off going!

I was with my last girlfriend for 3 years and always had to wear condoms and i've lost count of the number of times that even durex split on me, and that was when I was sober. Ive done so much reading up on this subject and maybe the odds are on my side. That said, I know that if a johnny was to split on me, i cant even imagine how shit scared id be for the next six months til i could get tested. I pity all those who have been through this experience. Of course, Bg's arn't the only attraction for me to come to phuket, there is so much more that appeals to me. But I honestly think that when I do come, I will of course visit bangla road and MTB in every evening but I won't be taking any girls back purely because of the AIDS fear.

Anyone else feel this way? I doubt it!!!!!

P.S. Participating in risky activity that endangers your own life is fine. But a man who isn't sypmtomatic, then has unprotected sex puts his partner at risk. So why take a chance? This is the part I don't get. Carriers put more than themselves at risk. They endanger others. It shows disrepect for all of humanity.

That's the point I was trying to make intitially. Once again, I apologise for misusing the term incubation. Will you accept my 2nd apology? No argument here. I think the disease must be treated as one that is easier to contract than it seems on the surface. Behaviour modification is the best tool to prevent it from spreading. People who don't know what they're doing or are ignorant of the facts pass it on. That how millions die. So wrap it up.

I have done a little reading on the subject and read many medical sites. One US government site rated oral sex as a low risk endeaver , the same as having intercourse using a condom. However low risk doesn't mean no risk.

I have read many many sites and studies on this issue (oral only)..

I have read some sites stating that there 'might be' a possibility and theoretically theres a possibility etc but I am of the belief they are hedging on the side of safety (of course) and also basing thier info on the early days of HIV education.

I have read many studies showing no risk to the reciever and haveing data and study info to back it up.. I have never read any data or study info to show the opposite. This is for recieving only of course.

This article from today's New York Times backs me up. All you have is 1 story from a friend, and your amazingly simple conclusion from 1 anecdote. 4 When does a person have AIDS?
