So I get back from a quick visa run Singapore and stop in to Tai Pan for a beer and a look around. I order my usual Tiger beer and give the waitress 100 Baht. She says Tiger beer is 120 baht and shows me the new menu with this crazy price. I give her the 100 baht and the Tiger beer, get up and walk out.

?? You didn't get your beer plus you left the 100 baht with her...surely if you were that unhappy about it you would have taken your money too....

...and don't forget it's 120 for the beer and 20baht tip for her for getting it for you....if you don't tip 20baht every time you'll get an evil look.

I always tip 20 baht at Tai Pan. The waitress didn't make up this rip off price so I didn't want to take it out on her. I left the 100 baht tip for her because the place was empty and she seemed upset about asking for 120 Baht. 100 baht doesn't mean shit to me but she can have dinner tomorow on me. The only reason to go to Tai PAn was no cover and reasonable prices. The band blows, ( the place was always empty until after the band stopped) and the DJ can't mix to save his life. Now it is cheaper to go to a real club like Tiger or Banana and skip Tai Pan all together.

Not likely. Pay $5-6 US for a Heinekin at most places. Even our piss poor disgusting tasting US domestic beers are more than $3 here.

120 Baht for a Beer in a Disco is cheap....Places like Marine, Tony's & Lucifers in Pattaya charge 150 Baht.

Agree, 20 Baht seemed to be the min. tip you leave all the time....than again, you do this voluntary, not on demand !

I wouldnt think about the prices during my holiday, but maybe you should come to germany,you get the beer for less then 2.40 € in normal pubs of course.Also the costs for staff and rents are much higher here , i guess.But in his situation i would have paid the beer with a nice tip and left.:embrassed

Taipan has always been more expensive per drink in comparison with other clubs.
A beer in Rock Hard is only 100 Baht and has better music.VIP Asia do specials between 8 and 11 pm.

The same happened to me although i gave them the beer and took my money back too and left, if i go back i will only buy 1 drink compared to previously a few, most guys are missing the point you may be able to afford these price increases on holiday but what would your thoughts be on returning home and your mortgage electric, petrol etc had increased 20% for nothing??, i guess u would care then and when do the increases stop, maybe on the next visit you wont be able to afford them, where does it end? not having ago at any one or any bar but think about tomorrow eh?

Erm.. They have all risen by about that much !! Food, energy, petrol, etc etc etc

Also my mothers cost of living, which I pay for also, seems to have risen nearly that much also.. Thats based in the UK.. Her rent just was moved by about 15% .. Cost of living is rising fast.

We are currently in a fairly high inflation period of time (thanks to central bankers like greenspan pumping out fiat currency and increasing M3 money supply).. Plus it is very normal to expect developing countries to have higher inflation than developed economies.. They are playing catch up and the rising costs of energy probably hit these economies harder. Expect this trend to continue and accelerate.

I used to spend a lot of time in Tai Pan a coupla years ago. Reason I went there was that I found it to be great FUN (although I think it has degraded recently with regard to girl-quality).

Anyway --- for me --- it was an investment (in fun) and my personal experience was that the ROT was far greater there than most other places. Point is that I could not be bothered with the extra 20 baht as long as I felt that I got my values worth. In other words, I did not find it “overprized” and would certainly not swap it for another place (like the VIP) just because of a few baht and less fun (my PERSONAL opinion of course).

I like Taipan alot. Lately the quality has picked up however I only go there after 1:30am. I like the lighting and the music has gotten better and one of the owners is a nice guy with a lovely wife and family. Yes the DJ can be annoying but there are good site lines where you can pretty much see who's there. Unlike Tiger.

They have some big electric bills, and all other "costs" that most people don't know about. Compared to Tiger which is too dark and loud, Baya Beach which only happens for a couple fo hours and is also expensive the only other option is Banana and it's not my cup of tea (I'm lazy and don't like to walk so far)

So if you over pay by 20 baht for a couple of hours of drinking it dosen't seem that much to me.

Think of meeting a girl in taipan and you've just saved the bar fine you would have paid earlier at her bar, that's 200-300 baht so the 20 baht overpay is ok.

i mean all the prices increase on season yeah...........i went into soi zero in bangkok in may bought drink and my egpytian bong pipe to smoke it was 300 baht same as last year and the year before that.but i saw the price go to 500 baht within a day .........the owner paid the other 200 baht for me and apologised it was ok i said i paid i new the cops or some one was wanting a larger payment then the norm.........
