Well on saturday night i decided to head down to the Timber Hut as i had never been there previously. It was a lot smaller than i imagined it would be and it was not as nice as i imagined it would be. Now you know how it is when you build up something in your head and when you finally see it its not what you imagined. Well that was Timber hut for me... I'd heard many good things about the place but when i saw it this past saturday i was not very impressed. I guess you could say it reminded me of an extremely old and run down irish bar.
The place did however have a nice friendly atmosphere and was decently lit (not too bright not too dark). I got there at 10.30pm just after a dinner date at the "natural" restaurant in phuket town (interesting decor in this restaurant, feels like you're in a jungle)...
When i got to the Timber Hut at 10.30pm the place was already packed with nowhere to sit (not sure if its like this every weekend). There was a good mix of thais and falangs i'd say about 15% falang to 85% thais. There also seemed to be some fl action around (not much though), but then again i wasn't looking for that as i was there with a lady.
The Timber Hut consists of two floors, although the upstairs is much smaller than the downstairs. No dance floor, the dancing takes place wherever you want to dance, in between tables and people (didn't see anyone dancing on the tables though). Live band playing, singing in both english and Thai. I must admit the band was quite good, one of the better bands i've heard since being in phuket, but then again i haven't been to many places in Phuket with a live band. Music is a mix of english Alternative rock to hip hop & R&B and local thai favourates... Drinks were averagely priced at 120 baht for a vodka tonic, couldn't tell you how much a beer is cause i didn't have one. They serve food as well and what people had on their plates looked delicious but you never know until you taste it, looks can be deceiving.
All things taken into consideration, I give it a low 7/10. If you in phuket town for a night i would say check it out for the band and once the band is through move on to the next place, there must be some place better... Its decent but nothing special about it and to go to Phuket town just to see it IMHO would be a waste of time unless you plan on checking out other places in Phuket Town as well.
