There are casa de cambios on Articulo 123, but I think you are thinking about Constitucion since that is where the police substation was.

I have not heard of any recent monger muggings. When I say that I mean I have not read of any...and I have hardly been on Coahuila in the last several weeks.

And I am not talking about the street girl alley know as Callejon Coahuila, but the alley that runs between the Oxxo and Mermaids from Coahuila and Baja California. If you wonder if they are still working there, I would suggest to ask a barker from Mermaids during the evening hours.

Let's make sure we are talking about the alley where the SGs stand between Constitucion and Ninos Heroes. Most of us would agree that this area is relatively safe, especially if you are with a friend.

I think we are talking about two different alleys. I think you are referring to the alley between Constitution and Ninos Heroes that is populated with SGs. You know, the alley. I think the real name for the alley is Callejon Coahuila. I do not believe that this alley is dangerous nor did mi favorita say anything bad about this alley.

I was referring to the alley off Coahuila across from Adelita's. It runs north. Unless I was mistaken, I think that was the alley that Sampson was referring to. (To make matters worse, I think the name for this alley is also Callejon Coahuila, too.)

That alley gives me the creeps! A former favorita of mine strongly warned me to stay away from that alley. She said a fair amount of drug peddling goes on there. But there are also often children playing in the alley and some mature, responsible-looking women talking to one another. But there is also a very strange and eerie presence there. It is difficult to describe. Some might describe it as a "bad vibe."

My friend was mugged on Labor Day night at 10:30pm, and it turned more into a fight that spilled into Coahuila. No police were around, and the folks at Mermaids saw it. I went back and asked at Mermaids and the doormen told me there is a group working out of that alley next to them.

The fact is muggings aren't going on at a fantastic pace, and of all the mongers that reported in, still only a very small perceneforum.xxxe of mongers have actually got attacked.

Now there are a few elements out there that could make TJ dangerous, and for awhile there because of cartel violence the TJ cops didn't patrol the area, and closed down the small police station in the area, and the US is deported Mexican aliens with felony police records at a stepped up pace with the budget crisis in California.

But with that said, I find the "zona" extremely safe, especially around the bar area, the alley where the SGs line up, and Constitution street. I also don't see any danger on Articulo 123, but would still be a little more cautious in that area.

As I have said many times before, after hearing many scary stories on prostitution sex forums. After hearing all these scary stories you expect something to happen, but just about every time I visit TJ.....I make it back alive back safe, and yesterday was no exception.

Are there peeps here that pair up on trips?

I like going alone, because I can do whatever I want, stay as long as I want, eat when I want, you get the idea. But the whole mugging is sort of scaring me, especially after hearing it from the locals and how the cops don't care.

Either way, by cab-ing around I feel 80-90% safe.

FYI - I try to carry pepper spray with me, most of the time. It is legal to carry in CA so don't worry about any special permits. Hand tasers are legal as well. These two won't kill anyone and can at least get you out of an unwanted situation if it arises.

If anyone ever needs to be shown around, I wouldnt mind doing it.

I used to be like that also. But with all the muggings going on, I had to change my style. Of course if there is a large police presence I guess there's a lot less chance of being mugged.

OXXO is that that new convenience store kind of right across from a Hong Kong bar? I would've thought that would be a relatively safe area?

I guess it's not.

In any case, I really don't think it helps all that much to be aware of what's going on around you. If you're alone, your time will come that you will be mugged. And you probably won't see it coming. Definitely the only way to go around the Zona now is with a group of people. Or taxi right to the door of the club you want to go to.

Damn! I thought the actual block of the Zona would be relatively safe.

Just out of curiosity at what time of the day or night did your friend get mugged? I could understand it was very late. Hopefully it wasn't during the daytime or the early evening.
