Quote... A British woman on holiday in Thaland was drugged and raped by a hotel worker she met in a nightclub yesterday.
The Thai attacker,24,offered the 33year old a lift then gave her spiked water to drink.
He first tried to rape her on a beach,then took her to her hotel where he pounced again.Cops grabbed him after his victim seforum.xxxgered to a hospital near Patong Beach on the isle of Phuket.

i feel terrible for that poor woman. but now, the question is, what is the penalty for a thai who assaults a farang? a farang in the same situation, even falsely accused, would probably end up with his ass nailed to the wall. but, what do you think will happen to the thai who commited this rape against a farang? will the thai authorities end up with the reasoning, if she hadn't come to this country, then she wouldn't have been raped?

What the Thai law says

The Criminal Code:Article 276: Those who rape women who are not their wives, either by coercion or physical violence, are liable to four to 20 years imprisonment or a fine of 8,000 to 40,000 baht.

A fine of $200 or 20 years in prison. Let's see... 20 years at that rate would come to $10 per year! I wonder if they give him a choice?

I am wondering what the fine is for a Thai man raping a woman who is his wife.. The thai wife revenge (severed member on a balloon or eaten by ducks) now seems quite reasonable.

I feel sorry for the rape victim as I have dealt with many over the years and I find it the most revolting of crimes along with of course pedophillia.
The Australian government website warns of this problem of tourists being raped or sexually assaulted in Los.
Do other western countries do so?
Most Thais are wonderfull people, in my employment I deal with the rubbish of society and believe in the west maybe 10% fit this category, in Los I have been to three jails, 1 in BKK and 2 in the provinces 1 north and 1 south and IMHO 3% of Thais are the criminal element.
Maybe those who have been here longer or visited more often would disagree.

Ok..the use of the word "warzone" was maybe a bit strong...
However..with a government who doesent care ... with less police out on the streets...the rapes and violence have increased...and the problems are growing!

I had a look at the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office website recently and it does indeed warn of people being drugged and the consequence of this is usually a robbery. This of course if infinitely worse. We are warned against accepting drinks, food and cigarettes off strangers (particularly prostitutes) as this is how the victim is drugged. It must be hard to remain constantly on your guard against accepting drinks etc, especially after a few drinks in the company of a very friendly race of people. How sad that we are told to be wary of gifts from the locals when I am sure that 99.9999% are honest decent people. I've looked at most of the English speaking governments travel advice websites (USA, Australia, N.Z. etc) and they all say pretty much the same.

Sadly, Thailand seems to be getting some bad press in the UK recently. This rape was preceded by the murder of a British couple recently by an off duty Police officer. Now it seems, he has been released on bail with witnesses too scared to make official statements so this story has resurfaced. I don't know the figures, but I am sure that hundreds of thousands of Brits visit LOS every year and the law of averages state that there are inevitably going to be isolated incidents. When these occur, they will of course be plastered all over the press.

I am yet to visit Thailand but have read much about Thai mentality and the friendliness of people. I can not wait to experience it first hand. I am certain from what I have read that a night out in my local town centre is much more dangerous than a night out in Phuket. I have read with great interest of Thai's saving face, avoiding confrontations and arguments etc. How wonderful it would be if us Brits had the same mentality! A Saturday night our would certainly be a lot more pleasant and carefree!

The current situation concerning the 2 brit murders is typical of any police murder and very bad press for Thailand.. I actually thought the media attention and his initial bail skipping would have ensured a bitmore monitoring..

As to being Mickey Finned.. I have been mickey finned in Indo (I asked for it was trying to find mushies) sussed what was happening and seforum.xxxgered off.. few hours memory loss.. some cuts and bruises.. 2 - 3 days tripping out a lot.. Think i have been mickeyed once in Thailand but I have been a user of downers and also on opiates for pain relief (injected) for a long period so sedatives tend to not have as much effect on me.. The time concerned I was knocked out and woke in the street in the morning but wallet was still there.. Dont rule out that it could have just been the tequilla but I can generally drink a bar dry and still get home to my own bed somehow, this was different with 0 memory between a certain set of hours..

A buddy (owner of Coco Shabeen in Soi Katoey) was mickeyed this summer.. Police told him at the time (low low season) that it was an 'epidemic' normally once or twice reported a month and usually in hotel rooms already to people drunk already, but at that time they were getting 2 - 3 reports a week and more in the street and bar doping than ever before.. Tough times cause desperate measures etc..

Knife stabbing and gunshootings don't even make the paper or TV news here in The SF Bay Area anymore, not unless there is some human interest angle : like it was a a kid who was walking home from school and got caught in the crossfire when the bad guys were shooting at each other, or a baby who was inside her house in the crib when a stray bullet came through the wall and nailed her. There are certain neighborhoods that are like war zones with gun battles almost very day! The poor honest folks who can't afford to move to a better neighborhood are doding bullets frequently!! :aan:
