There is something called a demographic crisis or time bomb and China is about to encounter the mother of them all. They might have a window of a couple more decades of good growth but even thats not a given. What almost is a given is a sustain economic collapse by 2050 and thereafter when a massive 2/5th's of their entire population - over half a billion people - will be over retirement age. This will be an absolutely massive drain on growth and will be the start of a huge population decline. By the end of the 21st China's population is predicted to be cut in half.

It's a problem that Japan is facing right now and is a big reason for Japan's economic stagnation. Unless they can reverse their birth rate (or discover the fountain of youth) this problem is unavoidable. Unfortunately that's not likely to happen because the richer people are the lower the birth rates trend to be. Their birth rate is already terrible despite being only a middle income nation on a per capita basis. As their population continues to decline so to will their birth rate which is already well below replacement levels.

Western economies are facing the same problem, HOWEVER there is another way to solve this problem- immigration. And thankfully unlike autocratic nations like China and Russia most western nations have high levels of immigration which is what keeps their demographics stable.

Its funny isn't it... Dispite how 'terrible' western society is people just can't seem to help but want to come here as opposed to going to autocratic nations like China or Russia which have incredibly low immigration rates. I wonder why that is...

Every day meal would be potatoes, some type of meat (cooked with onions), and some type of vegetable. Some cultures use rice, couscous, lentils, and western Europeans (especially the northern part) use potatoes. I never really liked picklesbut I know my parents and siblings would eat them. My mother use to make mustard pickles so she could can them and have them throughout the year, still a common practice in some parts of Canada.

Sometimes it is hard to know who is the one getting hurt by the sanctions, Russia or the country imposing the sanctions. Not hard to see why many of the European countries do not sanction the oil, gas, and coal imports from Russia. Many of the Russian soldiers are conscripts (draftees) that had no idea they were going to war. They are being used as cannon fodder. There are many videos of captured Russian soldiers out there remorseful for what is going on. Their moral is low and they are surrendering or hiding. Many say they have to fight or their our leaders will shoot them. That’s why you now have Syrians coming to join the fight for $600/month when they only get $15/month now with no way out of poverty. Those Syrians are willing to be cannon fodder and to die so that their families can live off the death benefits.

This is all on Putin, autocratic rule, all the “yes men” around him, and the Generals and Oligarchs. They need a leadership change and to instill a real democracy but not to be wiped out.

I have empathy for those conscripted Russian soldiers. If captured, they should be treated well as per the rules of war and the Geneva Convention. But, at the same time, they are the invaders and while they might not be part of the units deliberately targeting hospitals and schools they still wear the same uniform of the enemy and therefore should be attacked, killed and defeated until the survivors either surrender or retreat back to Russia.

It’s no different than the Germans in WWII. You can hate the SS, Gestapo and Nazis but have empathy for the normal regular German soldier and German citizen.
