One of the beautiful things about chess is that it teaches the mind sequential logic.. how to predict moves and countermoves (calculation), how to set traps (tactics), how to force your opponent's next move by being a step ahead (tempo), how to recognize positions to gain a strategic advantage (theory), etc.
