Many different descriptions for exactly the same thing. It really comes down to "supply and demand". If people charge "too much" and have an easy time finding people to pay that amount, then it really wasn't "too much". On the other hand, if they find nobody is willing to pay it, they'll have to adjust the amount to something lower.

Some people (me for example) want to pay very little. Others seem to not care one way or another no matter how high the price gets. It's like food - you can pay 35, 350, or 3500 for a meal. It's YOUR choice. Pick a place that has costs that you can afford.

For that matter, why shouldn't people charge as much as they can get, IF they can really get it?

Kudos to you, Nicke. I think by having a different business model than the other bars, you will profit more in the long run.

Because as I see it, a bar is in the business of selling drinks, and providing a comfortable atmosphere for folks to enjoy their favorite libation with their friends. A successful bar is a social gathering place for friends, new, old, and just met 5 minutes ago. It's all about the comfort level, and high BFs can make a guy uncomfortable to go there on a regular basis.

The girls certainly add to the atmosphere, pump up the fun factor, and, sometimes, add a little excitement and romance, as well. Good-looking girls help pull punters into the bar, but the bars that can keep a steady clientele coming back, every year for the tourists, and every weekend for the expats, is going to come way out ahead, in the long run. IMHO. That is your business model, IINM, and that is why you are a sa-mart man!

I do know a good number of bars around Patong with this and other stupid rules in place. A customer comes once, then never again.

To all my many friends that come to Phuket (and like to stay with the same girl for several days) I advise:
Get yourself a girl somewhere (preferably a disco or even from somewhere in the daytime!), then bring her to another place if you want to drink.

No lady drinks, no barfine, you will not be pestered to give drinks to girls, she will be in a good mood because she did not get filled up by other customers, and it is guaranteed that she does not drop you at 02:00 and goes home after you paid a monstrous bill.

You save all around, the girl gets paid a fair price and in the end it is even fair to the bar who makes money on drinks sold, which officially is the business they are in.

Also I tell them: DO NOT EVER pay a barfine. If not possible otherwise, agree a fair price with the girl and let her handle this part, so no silly "extra price only for you". Make this part of the agreement extremely clear.
It is true that the girls get a part of the barfine or ladydrinks, but the perceneforum.xxxe varies. Afterwards, rather give her an extra good tip for good performance (and make this point also clear before

Ladies with sponsors who do not go "out" are either paid less than the others, or, have other duties (cleaning, washing, shopping) that cover the shortfall.

Most bars dock the pay by charging barfines/lady drinks from her salary if she is below minimum:rules:. That's why the go-go girls are so demanding, they have big salaries and BIG quotas.

The expensive bars pay big salary to the most attractive ladies to ensure the money stream flows constantly, they have very high rents/wages/tea money to pay, they probably need keep most of the 1000B.

The 2 bars back of Tiger on the right have been 1000baht barfine before midnight for some time for the ladies that dance on the bar. They draw the customers so the owners don't want them leaving the bar early and they get paid a hell of a salary...think it's 15000 a month.

Agree with the above poster that the 90 drinks can be made up in the remaining nights (3/night average squeezes to 6/night over half the month).

A few years back, Sharky's lost alot of their girls when they instituted a very high Lady Drink quota. They were also known for huge fines when the girls showed up late.

At the end of last month, a dancer at Rock Hard told me she didn't need me to buy her a LD, leading me to think they have one. She told me to save it for this month.

Some girls prefer no salary. Some love the salary. As I understand it, once on salary, the hours are fixed and longer. If they come late, or leave early, or take a day off, they get docked. If they don't reach barfine quota, they get docked too (I guess that includes ones with drink quotas too).

That is what I think is the best way to handle a holiday GF.There is one slight variation.

If you meet a girl that you really like you might have to do the BF thing on first night but after that make a direct arrangement with the girl and by pass the bar.:intello:

Yes we have wine in Rochdale and even Australian wine has made it all the way to this ageing metropolis in Greater Manchester.

At the Wine Lodge they call it 'Aussie Plonk' and is sold in a glass with hot water and a spoon of brown sugar and stirred with a spoon that is actually attached to the bar by a chain that is fixed with a big rusty nail so that nobody steals it and trys to pawn it at the local Spoon Pawning Emporium.

Don't ask about the sawdust on the floor as someone will just tell you it was last nights furniture. Likewise, you will be checked for weapons on the way in and if you haven't got one, will be offered one from an old suitcase of knifes, knuckle dusters and throwing stars. Similar to the Bangla!

I think two of my teeth are still embedded in the pavement outside Yates! A lovely bar to take your favourite girly, if not, they will sort you out with one in there.

The barowners need to make their living,the girls too.Inflation rises up,food,rent,salaries,the whole lot.A barfine of 200 is nothing.

Important to know though,is that If the girls are on salary,a barfine just cover that salary.No profit,nothing to cover for rent,staff,etc. If the girl is Not on salary,i understand a bf of 2-300b for maintenance coverage

Seems like the British attitude of charging for everything that can be identified as an 'extra' if you ask me. Belgium is a close second. The restaurants will be charging extra rental for the plates next.

I have no problems compensating a girls 'lost' wages but I dont agree that I should compensate for the bar owners loss of income if he/she is willing to let her go. If they are there to pull in the drinkers, which makes perfect sense, then they should stay in the bar.

Jeeez! Draw up a contract! A copy for the bar, one for the girl and drop a copy off at the Police station on the way back to the hotel and be sure to drop off a copy off with the front desk.

Make sure you leave a copy of your passport with the bar owner and your credit card details and she will arrange the rest. Be sure to check her out for 'No Insurance' stickers and any scratches before agreeing a price for not to use a condom as someone mentioned earlier!

Having said that(last post), I think Nicke's business model is the most successful, when it works, and he is smart for not milking it for a few extra BF Baht income. It seems, however, that not every bar can compete on that level.

At one time, IIRC, 95% of the BGs worked on LD commissions, share of BF, and tips, only. Each bar might have had one or two who got a small salary. But I know now that in Patts(and probably some Patong bars?), all the bars are paying a salary to the BGs. For a new girl in a beer bar there, it was a standard salary of 3000 to 3500 Baht per month, at most bars. The girl I was paying a 500 Baht BF for, was getting 10,000 per month to work at the beer bar. To get their full salary, however, they have to sell a certain number of drinks, and get BFed a certain number of times per month. In her case, it was about 90 drinks per months, but I don't know how many BFs.

So, I think the transition from commissions/tips only income to monthly salary, to draw enough girls to fill the bars, has a lot to do with the increase in BFs, unless I miss my guess. By enticing a girl to work there with the prospect of a 10K wage, they hope to get the higher quality girls, thereby attracting more punters, who drink more drinks, and are willing to pay the higher BFs. At Xmas/NYrs this business model works great, and even if the girls are not top-notch, because the punter/girl ratio hits about 1 to 1 on New Yrs Eve, so every guy who wants to hook up has got to pay as necessary, or get stuck alone.

And, if the girls are really top-notch, that biz model will probably work well enough all year round. But I don't think it is going to work most of the time, if the girls are only average. Because why go to a beer bar and pay a BF that high? You may as well then just go to a go-go, where the girls make more of an effort to entice you, and you can see what you are getting, no hidden flaws. Or go to a soapy, where you can take your choice and get treated like a king for an hour. Then you can go hook up with your friends, feeling relaxed already, enjoy the company, the drinks, flirt with the girls, but not necessarily feel the need to hook up for the night.

When prices get too high, both BFs and expected tips, then, for me, the girls become nothing other than h00kers, so then it is just a matter of what is the most bang for your buck. For me, what made LOS so dfferent, is the illusion of romance, of having a real relationship with a girl, even if it is no more than a holiday romance. That is a lot different than strictly P4P, which is only about money. For the girl and the guy, I think it is better to spend some time together, really get to know each other, really have a friendship, and, in those rare cases, even something that can blossom into something lasting.

For me, that is what the LOS experience is all about, that and the friendships made, and good times shared with friends, along the way, as each of us shares his experiences with others, each in his own way.

Money is always a factor in LOS, it seems. But, in the traditional way, as I see it, the beauty of LOS has been that the element of money is sort of pushed to the back, under the counter, or under the surface. It is there, but, ideally, if the game is played well, we don't talk about it, except if necessary.

The 1,000 Baht BF just throws the monetary aspect right in your faces, smashes all the illusions we enjoy, and turns it into just another P4P scene, much like anywhere else in the world.

Like most I do not like to be ripped off. If I had gone into one bar and he had tried to charge 200bht for a beer and 1000bht fine. First I would complain if I did not get any joy then I would pay up and leave never to return and report it on forums. The internet is a very powerfull thing it can do great things for a business and bad things too.

I found on my last trip that some bars who get you in with a decent price for a beer but then rip you off on the lady drink. All I can say I never had any problems at the Mai Thai Bar.

IMHO I would rather give the extra baht to the girl and not to some greedy people who have to pay high rent to the very greedy owners
