Spoke to a bg friend recently who asked me if I knew anywhere that could change 1000 venezuela bolivaies as the local banks could not. She told me she had been LT with farang but 'farang not same same as me', so not sure if he was venezuelan or not but perhaps and he had paid her 1000 bolivaies and assured her it was worth a lot of money, so as the deed had been done, she had no choice but to accept it, hoping as told it was worth a lot of money.

I checked out the exchange rate today on XE.com and 1000 bolivaies are worth exactly 17.64 bahts and do not tell me the guy didn't know, now thats what I call a cheap charlie and I do not think it is a good scam but the guy is one fecking low life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldnt do this on a 2 person round situation as I drink fast and often take a sidewinder when I am in rounds with people to lower the pressure of being done while in rounds.

But if I am drinking in rounds with a group and one person in that group is close with cash and doesnt cough up.. Well you know I am fairly direct and dont really care if someone takes offence at what I say.. So I will call them out that its thier round and they are shirking...

When I have session in the offshore often 6 - 10 guys all sit there and just get rounds in instead of individually for the whole group thats in the bar... when someone has just sat there and had 6 or 8 free drinks in a row and you know they wont ever be the one to call the next it bugs the hell out of me.. If you dont want to be in large rounds like that just refuse at the start not accept 10 free beers first then make your excuses and leave.

Tally, it's a bar I frequently visit & will still remain to do so...I will not name the bar...sry.
I will just stick to my new rules....no more buying drinks for several bg's.....Wouldn't matter what bar it is, from here on in.

I’m not a big drinker, more of a medium. I usually only ring once or twice a trip. And I have yet to find a graceful way of avoiding bell drinks. If I see someone reaching for the bell rope (Keld is very sneaky, must be that security training) I will usually duck out to Phi Phi Island.
On the other hand if a friend buys me a drink guaranteed he’ll get one in return.
Last trip I rang the bell at MTB 3,000b, a few minutes later one of the BG’s asked me to buy her a LD. I told her no and she got mad and called me a CC in thai. Go fugure.

I developed the same mindset, quoted below from another board from mangosauce..a common experience you gotta learn and save yourself some wasted baht it seems..

Love that expression "a sidewinder"-its called a wedge in WA. I think rounds cause more grief than they're worth,prefer to drink at my own pace.Rounds are also a hassle when some of the group are drinking expensive top-shelf stuff and you're on the cheap lager...have known some great exponents of the be in a round til its their shout mentality, some people have it down pat:aan:

Sometimes a bit of patience works as well. On one of my trips to Samui, I was walking around the bar area near the Green Mango but it was still early, so I parked myself in a bar where the girls were playing pool. I think that short skirts and pool tables go together really well,don't you?:embrassed
Anyway, after a good while it was time to head off again but before I left I organised with the bar to supply the girls with a bottle of whisky, soda and ice. I had not talked to a single one of those 6 or so girls but they had provided me with some entertainment anyway.
The next night, I was in the same area, but had been to different bars, when came time to do a recon of the area to see what else was happening. As I walked past the bar with the pool playing girls they recognised me and we ended up having a huge night!!! They were even buying their own drinks with only an occassional contribution from me!!:happyi:

I don't think i'm a cheap charlie, i just recognize the value of things or at least i think i do... Plus i think we have to differentiate between tourists and residents. The residents take notice when there is a 20 - 30 baht increase in drink prices or a 100 baht increase in barfines because we live here and go to the bars quite regularly. I'm not saying residents will make a big fuss about the increase in price, i think many threads were basically stating the increase in price and questioning why there is an increase from one week to the next.

Whereas tourists don't take notice of the increase as they are here on holiday and don't know what the prices were to begin with. Even the ones that come to LOS regularly, when you come to LOS once or twice a year i doubt you take notice if a beer costs 60 baht one trip and 80 baht the next. Its basically just gone from a $1.50 to $2 thats nothing....

As for ringing the bell... Well personally i've never rang the bell and its for the same reason as everybody else... Why ring the bell and buy drinks for people i don't know unless its my birthday or new years... I'd much rather buy drinks for my mates and be done with it...

However on a different note, I will accept a shot when offered one when someone rings the bell, but i will not move closer to them to get offered a shot... And when you buy drinks for someone i don't think you should expect the other person to buy you a drink back... I mean when we buy lady drinks we don't expect the ladys to buy our next drink do we... And when i'm out with a group of friends we never have any problems as we all just take turns to get the rounds... Or as Livin said, when my drink is empty and i go to the bar to get another one, whoever is is also out or running low will get a top up. I think its pretty simple and straight forward when you're with people you know.

Just because you don't buy drinks for people you don't know doesn't mean you're a cheap charlie... For me, if i'm sitting next to a bm/tourist at a bar (not knowing its a bm/knowing or speaking to them) i will never offer a drink. However if i've spoken to this person for a while be it guy or girl, tourist or bm or other resident, i will generally offer a drink... Simple and basic etiquette in my book.

I WOULDNT BE A BIG DRINKER......SO IF I HAD TO DRINK IN ROUNDS I WOULD END UP PLAYING CATCH UP EVERY DRINK...AND AFTER AWHILE I WOULD END UP GETTING SICK FROM NECKING THE BEER TO FAST !!!!!!!!!

Well I dont think not ringing the bell constitutes being a cheap charlie, so i would strike that one off straight away

What does constitute being a cheap charlie in my book is:

Dodging rounds when u r with ur m8's
Buying drinks from a supermarket and then soi crawling with them
Running to a bar as soon as the bell has been rung
Not buying a drink for a BG when you having been talkin to her a while at her bar

(if you stay with her long time at bar).
