These cowards (Yes the gang-up Thai's are cowards) will not accept the loss of face...being "bested" by a farang. They will resort to whatever measure it takes for them to save face, amongst their peers...even if it results in a killing. (Be it on the spot, or later on.)

They do it to each other everyday FFS.

You just have to accept that you're playing in their park, and they will RULE.

Again, I agree and feel the same way... but HOW do we help? The scenario we are describing is a bloody dangerous one and in a sense we have already failed because we already let our friend get into deep trouble.

The Thai guys don't like us farangs. We've got lots of money and we easily get the Thai ladies because we can "take care" of them whereas the Thai guys make peanuts. So they are walking around with a bit of jealous resentment and when they see the opportunity to get a few kicks in they come running.

Saw a couple of fights in Patong this winter, and the thais comes from nowhere, circling the water like sharks waiting to attack.

The most insane thing I did see were an extremely drunk farang lying down in the middle of the road outside Tiger, and the thais started circling around. His farang girlfriend (or friend or whatever) tried to pull him up from the road, while the thais circling around started too kick him. As far as I could see the only think the guy had done was drinking too much. Luckily lots of local girls managed to stop most of the men, and the guys’ girlfriend and his friends managed to pull him away from the angry crowd. Guess they found it disrespectful or something lying down in the middle of the road pretending going to sleep.

In most countries I would agree with marc26, but you can’t win in Thailand. What happens if your mates or other farangs kicks the shit out of the thais attacking? Won’t they come back with more guys? Or even the police? You can’t win.

I guess most guys in here come from countries where a fight is over when one of the guys fighting goes down. That doesn’t seem to be the case in Thailand. You go down and 5 others start kicking you, pulling the knife or whatever, making sure you end up in the hospital with more than a broken nose.

I know a couple of guys who always gets into trouble. They just seem to attract trouble, and don’t have to do much getting it. I wouldn’t bring those guys to Thailand. They would probably get into some real shit down there, and being they’re friend I would get right in the middle of it myself.

Like Denver says: Don’t go out drinking if you’re in that kind of mood, and if someone tries to start something, go away, be "chicken", before it escalates. It’s just not worth risking your life over some kind of dispute.

if it is a friend, i go in as hard and as fast as possible, if he is getting hurt

if before any viloence escalates then hopefully you can step in and try to calm it down knowing that there may be some thais that are waiting to escalate it

Not really excuses, more like trying to understand their mentality and cautioning people if you do this or that in a crowd of thai guys in a bar something bad might happen. And there’s no point in trying to reason or change their minds it’s what they do.

One time I was fairly drunk and was done wrong by a bar girl, the mamason, the service staff and a few other peoples at the bar and started talking to the thai manager of the agogo, then yelling at him. One of his midget ninja bouncers tried to have a go at me but luckily one one of my buddies just dragged me away whilst I flicked them all off..... Even if you are right in these bar situations, you will still lose.

Fair comment. However Thais haven't cornered the market in "face". If word got back that my friend was getting his face smashed and all I did was stand there blowing a whistle, then I would lose the respect of the rest of my friends, and family too. Although charging in like a bull may not succeed in the end, and I may get smashed even worse than my friend, at least I can hold my head up high (if I survive). This isn't being macho, this is just me doing what I would expect a friend to do for me.

I respectfully disagree. The Thais just have good common sense, when it comes to fighting. There is a common understanding that they will defend each other from farangs, and that is just smart. They would be stupid to let farangs twice their size(as most are), kick a fellow countryman's ass, right or wrong. Because when the fists start to fly, there isn't time to hold court and take testimony.

They know that if they stand around and watch a little guy get his ass kicked by a big farang, that it could just as well be them, on another day. It is just their way of sending a message to farangs, "You big MFs had better show some respect for us little guys, or we will kick you f*cking asses!"

The proof is in the pudding. It is smart because it works. Every guy on this board knows the score, and will think more than twice before getting in a fight with a Thai. And any newbies or lurkers who have read this thread and watched the videos, will now think twice, as well.
