What I have seen does not mean only friends and contacts.. More just random passing people and bystanders.. People totally uninvolved have a pop..

One of my mates got attacked with a knife by a road rage incident.. He knocked the guy to the ground and secured his wrist, heard running footsteps and assumed someone was coming to help him subdue the deranged attacker, as he looks up he got a wallbrick in the face putting his nose level with his cheekbones needing plastic surgery and all kinds of things. The initial knife attack was nearly random, and the wall brick was simply seeing a farang defend himself and not get knifed..

If it was just mates defending mates it wouldnt be so bad... But its the fact that they just take the opportunity to lay the boot in on a farang without any question of who was who, what was what..

Theres also mob on mob violence, look at the university / college fights.. But that like footy gangs, hen both know an want what they are getting into.

i have probably seen about 10 instances of thai guys ganging up on farangs and was involved with one myself

in my situation,any normal person could see i was doing all i could to protect myself from a drunk thai girl wielding a big heneiken bottle without hurting the girl at all
but i still had the 10 little weasels circling around ready to cheap shot
only difference is i actually stood up to them and of course, they all backed down
and i did have witnesses, thais mostly, that came to my defense when i was stopped by cops askign what happened

Agree. Okay, let's say you HAVE to get involved, a friend is getting hurt etc; firstly lets THINK what you can do, because this is serious and you can end up dead when you get it wrong.

Now, unless the attack is happening at breakfast in the foyer of my hotel, I am going to have been drinking, and since TIT, the chances are it will have been more than one. Same goes for the rest of the BMs I know. If we charge into the fray swinging (and drunkenly missing) we will just get a kicking and go down also. Big help! :

You need to stay out of it and create a distraction, ring the bell at the nearest bar, blow a whistle if you have one, lean on the horn of a taxi, Heck, as someone said early in the thread, start loudly singing a show tune if that will work.

Do anything you can but charging in like a blind bull is IMHO simply the action least likely to succeed in these circumstances.

IMHO they did a pretty good job of keeping him away from cheerful charlie getting his two or three cheap shots in. I've seen a few situations on Bangla late at night where drunk and incoherent people have been lucky to get away with sustained obviously offensive behaviour and language. The vast majority however do seem to have a good time.

When they say that too much alcohol is bad for your health, they are talking about the blood loss and blunt trauma injuries you are so much more likely to get (In any number of ways) after you are way too full of the stuff.

Do like Denver says and, remember to go out with the idea of having a good time and get home before you start to forget yourself.

Yep, it's a discussion and I am neither condoning what Thai's do either, but trying to understand why they do it!

I could give countless (Well, maybe not 'countless'....a few) fights I've seen all over the world where an individual has been set upon by others because it was either easy (To get a punch in) or it was because the individual wasn't "One of them"

I chose to live among Thai's and enjoy my time there, I got myself into a scrape before I came here but that was my fault and I paid the price! I kinda got that one, I was pissed, probably said something I shouldn't and got one on the nose.

If I was to be as negative as some people feel about Thailand and it's people then I probably wouldn't want anything to do with the place and would have gone somewhere a little safer and keep out of the P4P areas instead. This is probably one of the seediest, grottiest, underbelly parts of Thailand we are talking about here in the videos anyway and with regard to these incidents in these kinds of places, add alcohol and this kind of thing will happen in those kinds of places! It cannot be taken as the norm for the whole of the male population of Thailand! Well, not for me anyway, that's a bit too simplistic.

If I was to go out in Vegas, Soho, the Reeeforum.xxxahn, parts of Amsterdam, I keep my wits about me, enjoy myself and get out of the place in one piece........Normally with a nice little piece on my arm too!!!

I was in Walking Street Patts 2-3 weeks ago and suddenly people created a big circle in the middle of the road. An Arabic looking guy was standing in a boxing pose and 3-4 Thais came flying in at him feet first. Now I would have thought that I would help out someone I saw very outnumbered in any situation. The truth was I didn't. I looked around and saw another 5-6 Thais waiting to wade in if needed. So I did nothing.

What happened is that self-preservation kicked in. I didn't know the guy or why the trouble started. I'm sure that I would have behaved differently if it was a friend I was with. This does not make me a wuss. This makes me sensible under the circumstances and I will not back down from that point. I've been in plenty of scrapes in my time and an agressive situation doesn't scare me. Being outnumbered outside of my back yard by I don't know how many locals with who knows what tools does!

As it happens, it was all over quickly as a load of tourists innocently wandered into the "arena" and everyone just wandered off on their way. I don't know if they caught up with him on his way back down. If he was clever, he would have got the hell out.

All well and good acting the tough guy in a hypothetical situation, but in reality circumstances need to be seriously considered... albeit quickly.

Even if the guy acted like a fool, was abusive etc no human deserves a kicking like that yes if he is coming at you with a weapon or throwing punches but not when he is knocked out...the scene with him out of it with his head flopping about and the thug stamps on his jaw/face is just wrong when a chap is out then the fight stops...i dont give a rats ass if i saw that or see that then so be it i get a kicking too but no man i know will stand by watching that....if you saw a group of men kicking a dog on the floor would you step in ?? yes the guy was a knob a drunken fool give him a slap then throw him out of the soi end of...said enuf now there are two types of men those who stand up and be counted (real men) and those who dont want to get involved the self preservation type (wusses)...i would get involved and the persons race has nothing to do with it if a bunch of farangs kicking one thai i would do the same...how would you feel if the chap got killed and you watched it as you sipped your beer....it reminds me of a tragic tale a few years ago in manchester a father of 4 young kids on a xmas works do went to his local for a final beer before going home xmas eve to the family he was drunk and a group of young lads in the club gave the young barmaid a lot of verbal he stood up and was punched once in the neck he was dead before he hit the floor the pub was packed and the body lay on the floor for 3 hours with people stepping over him to play pool as they thought he was drunk....when he started to change colour/lips blue etc someone realised he was dead the cops were called as they arrived people still played pool round his body the bar was still serving beer and the jukebox played loudley...i know this as a cop had seen the cctv told me....a young family lost there dad for xmas a young lad got 6 years hmp but the saddest thing was how people in the pub felt afterwards and the backlash from the locals.....the last thing any of the soi's need is a death and if this is allowed to carry on there will be one day. If anything is guaranteed to stop the crowds coming a murder will do the trick...cause of death a burst artery in the neck.....my last word on the subject you will be glad to know.

if it was a stranger, i would help anyway i thought i could and like you say, you don't know that reaction until you are in the moment

i know i have stopped fights before when someone was going overboard, but again, you have to be in the situation to know what you will really do at that time

I've never seen a thai fight alone or one on one. They will on ly fight if they outnumber you.

Saw a confrontation between a few thai guys and some of a rugby 10s team. Police were there in a flash to save face for the thai guys LOL.

Remember that any male bar staff are also the bars 'security' and will often help out any neighbouring bars in a you get my back i got yours kinda way. Plus as Paulie says they DO like to get a free kick or sucker punch in.

As others have said - avoid starting any trouble in the first place the odds will soon be against you.

definitely agree with you
we have to take into context where the fights are taking place, in the p4p area where you will attract some bad ones, farang and thais
but i have seen numerous fights in different parts of the world, and although not all were fair, i never seen this randomness, "hey lets all punch the white guy" before
and i am pretty sure most of the times the farang is more than likely at fault to begin the scuffle( i have never seen thais go up and punch a farang for no reason), i don't think that warrants random gang up violence

i am definitely more aggressive than some but i don't think i go looking for a fight, i just won't back down if i feel someone has done something wrong

i knocked 3 little japanese guy's heads together ( ala 3 stooges 5555) the other night when one of them grabbed Ao by the arm, so hard she almost lost balance
