Yes! And all the more reason to avoid getting in the situation in the first place. I just hope people read this and take heed before they travel and know the score if they are inclined to pick a fight after a few beers. If you think you can handle it with a few beer muscles inside you then think again............I hope!

It's been a while since I have been in the UK but we used to have spates of what they called "Paki-Bashing" - Gangs of white kids jumping all over lone Pakistani kids - Very brave, now, the shoe is on the other foot and it's the Pakistani's ganging up and jumping all over any lone white kid they find. Normally no alcohol or no more provocation other than having the wrong skin colour.

I guess the Thais are quite happy to gang up on the Farang if they want to.

I must admit to seeing very little 'un-provoked' violence in and around Phuket and there has normally been a 'reason' for why some tourist has taken a kicking and ended up in hospital.

Sometimes when I see a fight I will think about this and that,
stay away? help out, is it worth it? then react... usually I watch in fear of harm to self .:sarcastic:
Other times I don't think at all, watch the fight frozen to the spot.:eyes:
Then afterwards wonder why my brain and body was in pause mode.
Other times rush in without thinking about it (like catching a ball)
and pull them apart (I never go in swinging)
I guess a combination of all 3 is normal... umm is it?

I was in Shipwreck bar opposite Soi Crocodile a few weeks back, and what looked like a whole rugby team of Aussie guys all built like brick shithouses were acting like complete assholes, arguing amongst each other, disrespecting the staff and vehemently disputing the size of their bar bills. Quite a few Thai guys started to congregate out the front, but none of them did anything because they realised they didn't have the numbers or the muscle to do anything about it.

Now although these Aussie guys may have deserved to be reprimanded in some way, from what I can tell these Thai guys will only do anything when the numbers are in their favour.

I think you're getting close with this one, because when it all kicks off somewhere near you, how you respond is either instinctive, (Training/Experience), or as a result of thinking. Most times it is all over before you have had the time to think clearly in real time, so if you are not trained to respond properly, guess what? you won't.

That rush you feel when faced with a situation is adrenaline preparing you for "Fight or Flight". Ironically, both of these responses are driven by the primal need for self preservation. Nine times out of ten you won't fight and that's just what nature intended!

On the other hand, most people would face down, anyone whose fighting was directly endangering the safety of their children or loved ones.

So yes, one of the three responses would be quite normal IMHO

i have seen on 4 different occasions, nice girls(relatively i guess) making some good money as bg's, then get involved with one of these scum karoke guys
within 2 months, they never had a dime in their pocket and within 4 months all 4 of them were threatened with being killed if they left their bf's
all 4 of them had to leave phuket eventually to get away from the thai guys

I think a bar girl tried that when she saw the guy passed out on the deck.
She faced the same problem so many first aiders, and paramedics face when dealing with the after effects of excessive drink and drug use, in that she got belted for her trouble. Some people just lash out when they wake up suddenly even if they are lying in the middle of a busy road, some railway tracks, or even the floor of a bar in patong.

Full marks to her for trying, because if people stop doing even that, you will see bar owners removing bodies on a regular basis the next morning because believe it or not, there are people out there who would not even bother to step over you.

From what I understand the comments on the video state that this guy had just hit a girl, so far from being the wildest, most unlikely situations, its true in this case, and its pretty obvious that you having only just witnessed the end would have just waded into help the guy.

i have seen countless times , thais who had nothing to do with the situation, join in and violently going after a farang
now i am not saying the farang was right in the 1st time but in every single instance that i saw, it wasn't like the farang was overpowering the thai guy and they were coming to his defense, which i could agree with
in every single instance i have seen, it was "oh there is a fight brewing with a thai guy and farang, lets all get our kicks in". i have seen thai guys come in, again on numerous times, and kick a defenseless farang who clearly has been beating in the head when they been laid out on the ground

It was Thai guys who pulled him away from her. Held him until the Police had cuffed him and then helped her into an ambulance! So in that respect I do give them credit yes!

I guess if I was to go out with the idea I might end up in a fight, I invariably do! If I go out with the intention of just having a good time, again, I do.

I'm with you on this- nothing 'wussie' about walking away or backing down to avoid trouble with the Thais- it's a no win situation anyway. As you say those who know how to fight are the ones most likely to avoid one.
