A couple of points to make here. “Dice” was one of many absurd characters created by Andrew Clay that to his own surprise became enormously popular. He fully embraced it and then became that ridiculous person. The material was funny because it was absurd and crossed a lot of lines. His audiences were mostly men, but he did have a lot of female fans. At the time I found a lot of his stuff offensive but found the rest entertaining. The second point is that when you look back at how people spoke and acted in the past it can be horrifying. Decades from now people looking at this era will be appalled at how we treat the mentally ill, the very existence of homeless people and exploitation of the working poor.
