I have been lurking on this site for quite some time now. I have learned a great deal, thanks so much.

I am a massage student who will be graduating 1/22/08, woooohooo!!

Anyway, I have decided to have some chair massage parties. I would like to get some ideas for other entertainment, such as education games about massage that I can do at these parties. I have searched but haven't found anything yet. Any ideas?

Also, was wondering if charging $1.00 per minute would go over well at these parties?

From what I've seen/heard, $1/minute seems to be a common rate for chair massage, so that seems reasonable.

Congrats on your upcoming graduation! Are you in a state that requires licensing? If so, I would caution you about having parties where you are "charging" for massage.

Yes, congrats on graduating. Definitely check on licensing.

Are you going to host these "education games about massage" and do the chair massages? I don't see how you're going to find time to do both. You will be busy with the massages. What are your clients going to be doing when you're working the chair? You don't want to have people sitting around or you will have a short party. Where are you going to have these parties?

I might suggest collaborating with others so that there is always something to do for the invited guests. For instance, I've worked a housewarming party where the hostess had a manicurist, a pedicurist and a chair massage therapist brought in (all female guests). She also had food catered. There was something for everyone. Perhaps you could team up with some other therapists who could bring different modalities in for quick demos. Or bring in other chair people and just do chair massages.

If you're having these parties at your place of work as an open house type of thing, I'm not sure what a good fee would be. As I don't have an "open to the public office" I can't advise. Maybe someone else can. (R&R)?

If you're traveling for these parties, you gotta include travel and setup and breakdown time........$1 a minute doesn't cut it.

Yes, I do have to be licensed. However, I am legally allowed to work and charge for it as long as I do not go by the title Massage Therapist. I have to be titled either staff therapist or student therapist until licensed. And, I am actually going to be working for a spa next week.

Hadn't thought of what I was going to do while I was massaging during the parties. Guess I have to think of something to keep them entertained, lol.

I intend to have the parties at people's houses. I have a couple of people interested. My hope is to get some table clients from this. So didn't want to charge a whole lot in order to get more people to attend.
