In truth Thais have a very fataist attitude (mai pen rai and what will be will be) due to religion and other factors..

I have been google mining for a mad report by some farang with a deathwish..

He has been taking 100's of girls from Nana Cowboy and patong, keeping a diary seeing how many girls him asked to use a condom and then how many girls insisted on using one if he asked them not to.. Had 100's of bareback girls in the name of 'science'..

Had only about 605 even ask him to and about 80% would do with out if asked if I remember right.. terrifying stats if my mind is correct..

Unfortunately TinTin, you are wrong. The viurs spread among homosexuals and IV drug users in the west because that is how subtype b spreads. In thailand it is mainly spread heterosexually as it is a different strain. AND More virus has been found in the vaginal secretions of Thai women than any other. see the link below!

I figure that if there is any difference in reported HIV transmission route here in Thailand is probably more likely down to people not answering truthfully questions on how they got the virus.

Can't Imagine that many Thais admitting to **** sex, gay sex or injecting drug use.

No documented cases of people getting HIV from *******s, when they do these studies and go back and question people more aggressively they often find that there has been unprotected (often ****) sex or drug use.

Also the latest in American studies show NO massive increase in transmission chances of different subtypes.

The chances of catching HIV from one unprotected average length period of vaginal sex with a lady who HAS it are estimated at 1 in 2000, it increases if either party has an active STD, is on the blob etc...

Obviously you should rubber up at all times and stay safe, but talk of large chances of getting HIV from *******s is just misinformed.

You know LivingLOS that should not be so surprising - consider where a number of the girls actually come from - north / north eastern remote villages perhaps - not all of them are educated on the dangers of unprotected sex.

A few things:

- Not everyone with HIV has/did/does/will take medication. There are huge amounts of collative data on average survival times.

- Follow the links you will see a pic.

- You can't "prove" HIV (a virus) leads to AIDS (a condition) any more than you can prove that a cold leads to a runny nose, headaches, etc. Those links exist because there is a shitload of circumstantial data that says that's what happens and next to none on the other side that says it doesn't or provides a credible alternative. That's how science works.

- The studies done in thailand on hetero transmission typically go like this - take a sample of men with HIV then measure the infection rate amongst their wives. I'm not saying that is proof of increased transmission in subtype E indeed there are studies in USA that suggest no increase. The point is they haven't simply pulled this out their @ss or overlooking lies about gay sex etc.

I've been using the search tool frequently to learn about previously covered topics and came across this two year old thread covering the dangers of HIV in LOS.

A quick google revealed the following stats:

We all have to be careful when having fun in LOS.

One way visitors spread disease is to have multiple female partners and wear a single condom when engaging them. He's protected but the ladies aren't.

The jury is out on HIV infection via oral transmission but it's thought that 1% of infections occur this way and higher for the individual if they practice it frequently.

Vaginal or Dental Dams

There are many experienced elite members on this board who have been around for some time now.

Have the dangers increased in LOS and does anyone know of any experiences with infections?

But here is some important info about HIV in Phuket
The main treatment hospital is the Mission Hospital but place to get a check

They also clearly have a Notice Board about HIV in Phuket
The Total Registered at present is 4700 infected in Phuket ( Thats Registered ) i would hate to think what un_registered totals would be !!

Before everyone panics this is very little when you compare to other countries worldwide . We all know the risk and know its there USE A CONDOM

Would also like to add that most case are not because of a westerner having sex with bar girls no no - Most case are becuase there trusted partner has been having sex on the side maybe for cash ??? or cos the boyfriend is away out of town .

The cost of treatment at Mission Hospital is around 5'000 baht per month

There are many westeners who stay phuket who are HIV and they know they have HIV and are still active around the BARS ( Very True )

Probably just trippin... I read up on the topic, about the diffrent strains and apparantly there is only one vauge theory that support what the TS stated - most HIV experts think its bullshit.

But yeah, I went and got tested today just to be sure.

TinTin, I started this thread to just enlighten people as many people assume having sex in Thailand is no different than anywhere else, it is and there are different risks. I also shared my personal experience with my own indiscretion, I am no saint either, and am in the same risk pool as you guys who like bg's since I like thai guys! That is a question that puzzle many doctor as well!

Look, I'm not saying that HIV=AIDS is not a probable ipotesis, all I would like to point out is that, at this seforum.xxxe, it's just an ipotesis waiting to be confirmed
by a scientific study.
It's a difficoult task mainly because no one have actually photographed the virus itself; thus the pics you see are just "guess".
Let's be clear about that first.

We all should be cautious, especially about the official treatment, and I will try to explain why.

Many of us know that before a pharmaceutical product to be approved and introduced in the market must to pass two main tests: 1) effectiveness, 2) no too bad collateral effects.
And this ( for example) is how reserchers do it: they take 1000 hiv positive individuals, 500 of them are given the drug to be tested and 500 of them without their knowlege are given just a placebo (water-sugar solution)
The comparision is taken after a follow-up of few years of monitoring changes on the levels of CT-4 cells.
As every reserchers know that the "placebo's effect" effects positively circa 30 to 40% of people, they will approve the drug only if its result overpace the placebo of only 2%.( of course the adverse effects of the drug would be taken in consideration too).
Now, when you ask to those doctors why the placebo can actually improve the conditions of the patients the only thing you hear is something regarding the fact that the human mind could be a positive factor.(????)

But the real question that no researcher may answer is: "even if the drug
surpass the placebo in postive results, how we do know how much the pacebo effect could have been influent on people who has taken the drug?"

I believe that this is why many drugs are retracted from the market when and only when they are doing more damage than good( see Viox, Lsd, Gardasil ect...)
Anyway, we should consider also the fact that a NEGATIVE PLACEBO EFFECT could be strongly influent when some guy find out to be positive on the HIV test, it's like to hear a death sentence (when actually it is just only an ipotesis never proved) The famous 30 to 40% could basically work the other way round.
That is only what i meant to say.
However,... ALWAYS USE CONDOMS!

PS: do you know that AZT drug was on the market already in 1960s as a poison of rats???

Not even going to bother replying to the main part of your post as you obviously have no idea about the research/development/medical ethics involved in any clinical trial of medications.

As for the "rat poison" , one of the main anticoagulants used worldwide since 1954 is Warfarin , which has also been used as rat poison since 1952.

Belladonna (otherwise known as Deadly Nightshade) is another "poison" regularly used in medicine , it is called Atropine.

So , to imply that a drug is "dangerous/unsafe" simply because it 'could' be toxic is pointless . Drinking water in sufficient quantity can kill you.
