Perhaps. I would hope so. But for me, who only wants the massage, and can well do without paying for all the ambience, I could try out 10 different masseuses for the price of one of the high price sort. Then I will stick with her and save 90% every time. :
And it usually does not require trying 10 of them. I've often got it right on the first or second try. Albeit, there have been a couple of occasions where I had to go through 5 or 6 of them. And on those occasions, I tried pricier places, hoping for better results, but only got average quality for more. Albeit, they weren't horrible.

I would hope that is true. But I suspect sometimes just knowing the person who is hiring, or having an "in" through family/friends would count for more. I agree. It is obviously worth it for many people, or they would not pay it. But then again, how many people go to a fancy resort, with a beach, top restaurant, entertainment, etc, right there, and arriving straight from the airport, get to the resort, and never leave the grounds for the week they are there?

In terms of massage, generally the girl giving you a 120 hour a massage will not be as good as the girl giving you the 1200 baht an hour massage, people don't just pay huge amounts of money more for no reason.

I'm sure a 120 baht an hour Pattaya massage room is in no way comparable to a professional spa in terms of relaxation.

I disagree entirely. Once when in Chiang Mai, I took some friends with me to a very modest MP, where for 200 Baht, you got a terrific 2 hour massage, and, as far as I know, all the masseuses there were quite skilled. One friend was French, his wife was with us, an American, and the other friend was Indian, and his Indian wife came along, as well.

The Indian refused to go into the MP, as it was a very ordinary-looking place, nothing fancy, and not a posh-looking spa. His wife agreed that they would have a beer at a nearby bar, and wait for us. She seemed a little disappointed, but would not leave him alone.

We got the massages, and the Frenchman and his wife agreed that it was top-notch, each said it was one of the best massages they have had in LOS, where they have been going every year for 20 yrs(she is in the import business and does business in CM). He said he never would have gone in there, because they are used to fancy places, and was surprised that the massage was better.

My own experience has been that it is the individual masseuse that makes all the difference how good the massage is, and where you get the massage has no bearing on that. The particular gal, Raan was her name, that I got the 120/hr massages from, worked in a MP where my observations led me to believe that over 50% of the clientele were Thais from BKK, on holiday in Patts. It was located in an area, where there were no bars, and most of the buildings were rooms where Thais lived, and shops where Thais shopped.

Perhps not for you, but it certainly was for me! That is why I kept going back. I had been to a lot of MPs and different masseuses before I found her that trip. She was top-notch, and I found the MP she worked in to be a very relaxing place for a massage.

Didn't you read the OP? It states that the scam is that the Russian girls go to the guys' rooms, and do not mention that they are p4p. The guys think they are tourists, and the sex is a freebie.

It is all of that, of course. But also you are paying for the posh surroundings. An attractive entrance, marble floors, paintings on the walls, staff that speak English who will smile and kiss your ass(not literally 555). And I would think, in some cases, you are paying to know that you are getting a massage WITHOUT a happy ending.

It is the being made to feel that you are in the lap of luxury, going first class, red carpet treatmemt, etc. It is a boost to your ego, knowing that you are a "first class" person.
